LOS ANGELES, Oct. 10 -- Following the debut of the luxury line's wireless Internet service in September, Crystal Cruises plans to launch cell phone service later this month aboard Crystal Symphony and Crystal Serenity. "Quiet zone" technology enhances the new cell service, allowing select areas of the ship to be cell phone-free. The service is available through SeaMobile(TM) and guests will be billed through their own cell phone provider. Other available wireless services include text messaging and use of PDAs such as a Blackberry(R).
"Today's luxury travelers want to stay in touch and they want it convenient, but they don't want to be disturbed," says Thomas Mazloum, Crystal's senior vice president, hotel operations. "Unlike land-based resorts, the 'quiet zone' technology protects areas sensitive to cell phone use such as the dining room and theatres."
In conjunction with the service upgrades, Crystal has simplified its Internet pricing plan with convenient packages that can be used throughout the entire cruise. Wi-Fi laptop access is available at the same rates as through the desktops in Crystal's Computer University@Sea. Laptops are also available for rent on board.
The Crystal Difference
Crystal Cruises enjoys a reputation for excellence, grounded in over a decade of prestigious accolades. Most recently, Crystal Cruises has been voted "World's Best Large-Ship Cruise Line" by the readers of Conde Nast Traveler and Travel + Leisure magazines for 10 and 11 consecutive years, respectively -- the only cruise line, resort or hotel to have achieved such distinction.
