PVSA and your Alaskan Cruise out of Seattle (USA)

I'm wondering if anyone has concerns that the new amendment to the Act may have an effect on your cruise from a US Port this summer. I doubt that they would pass it so soon but I also doubted that they would even consider the amendments in the first place. Seems to me that they would be cutting of their nose to spite their face. If the amendments go through all cruises from Seattle would likley be cancelled by the cruise lines as the end result would be that the ship would have to spend 48 hours in a "Foreign" port eg. Prince Rupert/Victoria etc. and that would not really be logical besides being cost effective on a 7 day or even 10 day cruise.

I'm leaving from Seattle but being here (so to speak) it does not matter to me if I leave from Seattle or Vancouver. I'm going to drive to the Port regardless.

    BSeabob,

I hadn't heard about this yet....but I will do some searching and then comment some more.

I just booked the Golden Princess sailing on 8/30/08 and we have a decent group going with us....so of course now I'm worried.

    Thanks for the information!

The uncomfirmed compromise that I've heard about seems to indicate that they found a way to only ave the restrictions apply to Hawii. This was as of 3 days ago.
