carrying own luggage onto ship at boarding

I know this question probably has been answered but I'm having trouble finding the thread. Can one carry their on luggage onto the ship? If I could I'd like to just go ahead and get everything put away before sailing and begin enjoying my cruise. Is it mandatory that they be taken by the porter and delivered to the cabin?

They may require you to check it so that it can go through the proper security measures. Im not sure, if no one can give you a definite answer, then call RCI and ask customer service.

The last time I sailed from Miami, they had restrictions on the size of the luggage going through the scanners. Believe me, it's a long haul to be lugging luggage with you. You'll have to lug it up some stairs and across the gangway, which is narrow.

You get the luggage pretty quick. I've always had mine prior to sailaway.

Large luggage will not be allowed to be carried on, as it would have to go through the security scanner, which is smaller than an airport scanner. It is scanned separately. There are size restrictions for what you can carry on-board.
