Cruising on Monarch of the Seas

Is anyone cruising on the Monarch of the Seas on Feb 23-27? We are a couple, in our mid-40's, looking for fellow cruise "buddies". Flying from Pittsburgh to LA, because of great airfare...just couldn't pass up this great deal. Hope to hear from fellow cruisers.

That's the link for the Royal Caribbean Roll Call Board. Post this also on that forum and check the Cruise Tracker for sailing buddies.

Have a great time! The Monarch crew are wonderful! Most of them have been together since the ship first started sailing.

I'm really excited to see posts from someone else who is traveling on the RCL Monarch at the end of February. This is our first cruise and we're really looking forward to the trip. We're a little worried that the weather will be cold, but I bet that's why the prices are so low right now. You're right, it was just too good to pass up.

It's a good starter cruise, but just know that the cruises on the coast of Calif. are nothing compared to those anywhere else. The Monarch is a sweet ship and looks so good since it's total renovation. You picked the right ship - the Ecstasy is the pits!!

Make sure you go all the way aft (to the back) of the ship to the "Jade" section of the Windjammer Cafe to eat. The buffet back there is MUCH better than the first one you come to when you enter the Windjammer. The food is warmer, fresher and it's not as crowded. The snacks on the second level of the Windjammer are great!

There's a great place to sit and people-watch just outside the shops in the atrium by Ben & Jerry's and Seattle's Best Coffee. Wait to buy anything from the shops until the last night. That's when a lot of the stuff goes on sale. :) Have fun! Can't wait to go on "Ali's ship" again!! Just 2 more months!

Thanks for all of the information. People watching is a favorite past time, so I'm sure we'll have to check out that spot. We're from CA so the departure port is awfully convienent. The caribbean sounds so much more inviting, but we're limited on time and funds this time around so a west coast trip is our only option if we want to cruise. I'm glad you mentioned the Ectasy (it was our other option). If you can think of any more tid bits, I'd love to hear more!

    Thanks,
    Allie

Sure, Allie. :thumb We're in So. Cal. too and I know what you mean - it's just so convenient to drive to the port!

If you want inexpensive internet service, go to "Fuel", the teen's center. It's rarely ever filled with teens, in fact, there's usually no one in there and you can get internet access for .25 a minute. My teen and I used it a couple of times and saved a bundle.

The rock wall - if you want to do it, go at the very first chance you get. According to the manager of it, it's the busiest rock wall in the whole RCI fleet. From the lines, I believe it.

Hope you get good tablemates. Ours were okay, but they were late almost every night and it was really, really rude. I felt bad for our waiter, as the majority of people didn't arrive on time and he had a heck of a time trying to serve everyone. People were showing up an hour late and expecting to be served! argh!

Anyway, have a great time! I can't wait to go back on it in April!

Re: Cruising on Monarch of the Seas

We don't have any kids, would we actually be allowed to use the internet service in "Fuel"? It's nice to know that we will have access to the internet, since it's our favorite mode of communication.

Good info about the rock wall, I wouldn't have thought so many people would want to use it. Is it available on the afternoon of departure or will we need to wait until Tuesday morning?

We are a little worried about our tablemates. That part is a bit out of our control. There are only two of us, an who knows how RCI will classify us. We won't be late to dinner, we have only signed up for one excursion and it will be completed long before dinner. Though I'm glad you mentioned it, because I wasn't sure if dinner time was a set thing (like a reservation) or if it was a window. Obviously it is the former, so thanks for the heads up.

Do you by any chance have any old "Daily Compasses" from this cruise that are scanned? We were curious about the typical intinerary on this ship.

April is quickly approaching. i noticed you have two cruises planned for that month. You're really lucky! =)

Yes, you can still use the computers in Fuel, no one will even notice you're there.

If I remember correctly, the rock wall isn't open the first day, but will be the second day in the morning and afternoon.

I thought I had saved the Compasses, but I can't seem to find them. I'll look some more and see if I can and let you know. If I find them, I'd be happy to fax them to you or send them via e-mail. :)

That would be great! Thank you. We're still trying to get a feel for what we should expect. We went with a travel agent off the RCI website recommendations, but he isn't that great. His price was great, but our Edocuments still haven't arrived and it's been weeks. RCI said they go out in 24 hours. The reservation is on the website, so I'm not too worried, but it's nice to have as much information as possible. I really appreciate your helpful hints. Thanks again.

Re: Cruising on Monarch of the Seas

Did you fill in the online documents on RCI's website? Print those off after you have filled them in and just take them to the pier with you if you haven't received your regular docs by the time you have to leave. Doing a pier pick-up of documents is pretty easy. I've done it a few times when my docs became lost in transit.

If it wasn't a 4 hour flight for me, I'd sail that ship all the time. :lol
