    QUACK !!

    Happenings in Vancouver -
Arts Club Theatre Company presents My Turquoise Years

    Details:

Based on Farrant's memoir of her fourteenth summer, My Turquoise Years is a comic coming-of-age story set in 1960, a time of postwar optimism, when plastic reigned and the colour turquoise was the height of chic. Marion, raised by Aunt Elsie in sleepy Cordova Bay, has grown up hearing tales of her glamorous, globe-trotting mother, Nancy. Just as Marion is blossoming into womanhood, Nancy suddenly announces a visit to Canada, throwing everyone into a tizzy.

HAL Re: The Duck Crew - 18 Apr 2013 - We Take on Hawai'i - QUACK!

    QUACK - QUACK - QUACK !!!
    Only 275 days to go!!!!

Don't know if anyone has been looking at the HAL shorex yet; but, just in case you don't see anything that trips your trigger, here are some other suggestions:

    Best of Maui

There's so much to see and do on Maui, and so many places to stay and eat. Consistently named as one of the world's best islands, Maui has something for everyone. Beaches of black, gold and red sand, a crater bigger than Manhattan scenic drives, exclusive resorts, historic towns, top snorkeling and scuba diving sites, and tropical rain forests are just some of what you'll find on Maui.

    Best of Oahu

Even today where tourists have so many resources to help them plan their trips. so many visitors to Hawaii spend a week in Waikiki, return home and tell folks they've been to Hawaii. They've missed the real Hawaii. Even on Oahu, there is so much to see and do outside of Waikiki that can keep visitors busy for several visits. Be sure to explore this wonderful island.

    Kauai

From the awe inspiring Na Pali Coast, to the sunny South Shore, to the secluded areas of the North Shore, and to the crater of Mt. Wai'ale'ale, Kauai is one of the world's most beautiful islands.

    Big Island of Hawaii

With 11 of the 14 known climate zones in the world - from desert lavascapes to tropical rain forests to beaches to snow on the peaks of 13,000 foot volcanoes, the Big Island of Hawaii has something for everyone.

    Lanai

Where pineapple was king, today Lanai depends on tourism for it's survival. Secluded beaches, tall pine forests, alien-looking lava rock formations and two of the world's top golf courses are just some of what makes the island of Lanai the choice of today's high-end visitor.

    Molokai

The most Hawaiian island of all, Molokai, is certainly not for everyone. It's people are private but amazingly friendly. It's land is desert dry on one end and lush and tropical on the other. In between the Kalaupapa Peninsula bears witness to those who suffered there for having an illness caused by no fault of their own.

    Golfing in Hawaii

Hawaii is a golfers paradise with courses on each of the major islands. Whether you're a beginner or experienced golfer, you're sure to find a course to meet your level of play.

    Hawaii Festivals & Events

Hawaii celebrates the usual mainland holidays, but also many festivals and holidays exclusively its own, many of which derive from annual festivals celebrated by the ancient Hawaiians.

HAL Re: The Duck Crew - 18 Apr 2013 - We Take on Hawai'i - QUACK!

    QUACK - QUACK - QUACK !!!

OK Crew, here's the latest ... So far, we have 17 on board ... I would appreciate any information anyone is willing to share. Cabin numbers are only needed so the HAL Activities Coordinator can get your invitations to you. If you don't want your cabin number posted, that is absolutely not a problem. Just send a private e-mail to: john.steinke@dhs.gov, so I'll be able to get events coordinated and no one will be left out.

    Crew Manifest

    Calgon & SunFlower Star - John & Patricia - Northern Virginia - Cabin C3332
GloBug - Glorya & Gordon - San Francisco Bay area - Cabin ? (Hmmmm. Maybe we can just put her in a dinghy, or tie a rope to her ankle, and drag her behind the ship?)
    Saxon6732 - Alan & Marilyn - Anderson, SC - Cabin - B6122
    Sumac! - Herb & Suzy - Alabama - Cabin S7011
    JacquieP - Leon & Jacquie
    Luriline63 - Lisa, Neil & PizzaBoy
    CoysDad - Jim & Patty -
    J.E.M. - Jim & Claire -

    Dinner Selection

Early Traditional (5:45 pm) - Calgon / GloBug / JacquieP
Late Traditional (8:00 pm) - Sumac!
    Anytime Dining (5:30 - 9:00 pm) - Saxon6732
    Apparently, Not Eating - Luriline63 / Coysdad / J.E.M.

    Celebrations

    April 18th (Vancouver) - Holland Amerika Lijn's 140th Birthday
April 19th (At Sea) - SunFlower's Birthday (one month late)

April 28th (Nawiliwili) - GloBug's Birthday (OMG. Gag me. She's really old. I think she's like ... a hundred or so ... ya know?)
April 28th (Nawiliwili) - Private - Aloha, Mele Ana - Dolphin/Aft / The Duck Crew
    May 6th (Vancouver) - Suzy's Birthday
    Group Events/Activities

While the Cruise Director and his/her staff will have plenty of activities scheduled (ship building ... Japanese S&M [karaoke] ... trivia contests ... newlywed/not-so-newlywed game ... bingo tournaments ... casino contests ... galley tours ... etc.); I'm looking for suggestions from everyone as to possible group events or teams we can get together for the HAL events (scavenger hunt ... most handsome/beautiful cruise companion (don't even go there gloBug) ... gift exchange ... duck-a-pault ... hula contest ... grass skirt lawn mowing contest ... slot pull ... Calgon/GloBug Cage Match ... knobby-knees ... swimsuit-ping-pong ball stuffing ... GloBug burial-at-sea ... best/worst dressed Hawaiian shirt/mu-mu ... celebrity look-alike ...).

OK, you can see where my poor excuse for a mind is going so, for God's sake, please get your suggestions in. Unless you're willing to foot the bill, events need to be free, or 'no-host', 'cause I'm poor (see the wedding band? ... ... I love you SunFlower!). Nothing is locked in at this time, but since some things will require reservations or other coordination, the sooner we can decide on stuff, the better.

Note: There is only one mandatory group activity ... Getting your fannies/tail feathers on the ship BEFORE 1600 hours (4:00 pm) on April 18th!

Currently, I'm seriously looking at the following; but, nothing is 'locked in' at this time:

Re: The Duck Crew - 18 Apr 2013 - We Take on Hawai'i - QUACK!

There's good reason why we're not eating -- we can't go. Yet, after seeing all the activities that are planned, I'm really wishing we could!

Thanks for putting all this together, Calgon. I really, really wish we could join you.

Lisa - With all the stuff going on im my alleged life, I really thought you were going ... I'll fix it. Thanks. (I'm holding out hope ... )

GloBug - I really thought I had corrected that. My bad. It will be fixed on the next posting (time expired for editing, cause I'm so lame). I did get the approximate age right though, didn't I?

No, you got THAT wrong too! I am going to be 29!

Contrary to what SOMEONE might say, I will NOT pollute the pristine waters of Hawaii if I am dragged behind the boat. Not that I want to be, you understand....

I guess the three pre-Duck cruise gatherings I attended (SF, NY, Seattle) have given me an honorary D.I.T. standing! Maybe we can make it four. I love Vancouver -- I'll have to see when DH's school vacation week is. (It's usually 3rd week April, but official calendar is not out yet.) BTW, we found a fabulous restaurant in Vancouver's Chinatown that I think you might like:
