Just got mine today and right now it is connected to 3g. Anyone know what the charges are if you use the 3g for stuff like reading email and posting.
Thanks Susan
It was my understanding that if you really used the 3g other than the Amazon site to download books that there would be a charge. Just wondering if anyone had spent time on the net and if there was a charge. I don't want an ugly surprise since they do have a credit card for the books. I know there is no charge for downloading them. There is a charge for transferring documents to it. Also what light does every one use. I need to get one. Thanks all for your help. Susan
There is no contract that you need to sign with AT&T to use the Wi-From Jeanie - Do you need to be a customer of AT&T?
Fi or the 3G. And no, you do not need to be a customer of AT&T.
Looking on the amazon website, it states that the AT&T 3G is free. Edited to say: Sorry - just realized you'll have to be logged into your Amazon account to view the info. From TexasSue - I don't want an ugly surprise since they do have a credit card for the books.
But, as I said before, on the Grand in January, a lady at our lunch table, in order to use her Kindles Wi-Fi & 3G, she was charged the going rate by Princess. SO, given that, there could be other instances like that.
I do know, last Tues - Thurs, when I was in Tunica with Pic and our DH's...I took my laptop, I was charged via the hotel to sign on wirelessly...Pic, using her Kindle was not....she had it for free.
I think, that anytime one would try to access either a Wi-Fi or 3G, and there was going to be a charge, that person would be required to Agree to the charge.
But, please, do not take my word for it, I am not an expert, I've just gotten mine, but this is what I've read on the above site or, know of what others have experienced.

I used my nook on Amtrak in August of last year. It was slow but worked great.
On Kindle there is a downloading charge for books?
For a light on my Kindle I use a Wedge, from Barnes and Noble.
TexasSue - On your Home Page...
Click on Kindle Users Guide
Click on Menu
Click on Go to...
Click on Table of Contents
Cursor down to: Wireless Access w/ Amazon Whispernet...Click on that...
This area should answer all your questions. Especially about the Free 3G Connectivity.
