Storms ahead for Upper Midwest; hot Plains

Midwest
* Storms are possible in the Northern Plains and northern Minnesota today
* Severe storms are possible today in the eastern Dakotas and northwest Minnesota
* Storms will spread into the Upper Mississippi Valley from the Northern Plains tonight
* Severe storms are possible tonight from central Nebraska through Minnesota
* Storms are also possible in the Ohio Valley today & tonight, with a few severe storms today
* Hotter than average temperatures are expected for much of the region
* Cooler than average temperatures will begin to move into the Western Plains
* Highs will range from the 70s from western North Dakota to Upper Michigan to near 110 in southern Kansas
South
* Showers & storms possible across the Southeast through tonight
* Some severe storms are possible today in the Tennessee Valley and Southern Appalachians
* Hotter than average temperatures expected in the Southern Plains and Lower Mississippi Valley
* Record highs will be threatened again in the Southern Plains and parts of the Lower Mississippi Valley
* Poor air quality is expected in parts of the Carolinas
* Highs will range from the 80s in the Southern Appalachians to the 110s in Oklahoma and North Texas
Northeast
* A few showers & storms are possible across the region today
* Showers & storms tonight from Southern New England to the Central Appalachians
* Hotter than average temperatures expected for most today
* Poor air quality is expected in several areas
* Highs will mostly be in the 80s & 90s
West
* Thunderstorms are possible in parts of the Southwest today & tonight
* Some showers are possible in the Northern High Plains today & tonight
* Hotter than average temperatures are expected in the Southern High Plains
* Cooler than average temperatures are expected in the Northern High Plains
* Highs will range from the 60s along the Pacific Northwest and Northern California Coast and in the Northern Rockies to the 110s in the deserts of southwestern Arizona and southeastern California
