California recently decided they were going to develop a new and improved driver license, with better security measures and a brand new look.
Among the new features, licenses for drivers under age 21 will be printed vertically, making them easier to identify for police and shopkeepers. The cardholder's signature and birthday will be raised, allowing them to be felt by touch.
Hidden images can be seen only with the use of ultraviolet light, and a laser perforation outline of the California brown bear will be visible when a flashlight is pressed against the back of the card.
Sounds really good, huh? Except that the company that has been granted permission to produce the new licenses, can't meet quality needed.
People are waiting 6+ months for their new licenses. In the paper this morning was another article about this, with people commenting that they had renewed in October and are still waiting.
DMV is now issuing 90 day temporary licenses, with renewal of your temporary license every 90 days until your new license comes through.
My notice telling me I was eligible to renew via mail or internet came yesterday, so I renewed on line today. My license expires in April. I expect to receive my brand spanking new license... by Thanksgiving???
