Kindle, Nook, can someone help me please

I have been following what you all say about the Kindle and Nooks. Can someone tell me some main differences between the two. Can you surf the web on them since everyone talks about them having wifi. Also what is the difference between them being wifi and wifi with 3G. Thinking of asking for one for Christmas but I have to understand them before I can ask. What can it do, what can't it do?

One of my agents brought a Nook in yesterday and I was intrigued. She just got it so she didn't know much about it.

Thanks for any help. You are always so helpful here. I got a nice netbook that I am happy with because of all the advice you gave me at that time.

I have a Kindle that Mike bought for me, you can download books, some mags, newspapers, etc - it is supported by Amazon so you can go to their website and see if what you want to download is available. Most books range in price from $2-$8 but some are free. There are some games, like Minesweeper but I don't know too much about them. No, you cannot "surf" even though it does have 3G, I have the wi-fi version.
    MAW just got a Kindle.
Nook - I know Glo has one and she loves it. I believe they just came out with a color version for the Nook but to me it's a waste.
If you are looking to surf and a reader, then you may want to look at an iPad. Don't know too much about them, I believe ShipMaven has one.

Marie - I have a previous generation Kindle 2. It operates on 3G, Wi-Fi for downloading reading material, e-magazines, e-newspapers, blogs, etc. It doesn't surf the net, do e-mail, etc. It's pretty much monochromatic. It is extremely easy on the eyes to read material under various light conditions.

I do not have an IPad or Nook. I just bought a PanDigital Novel (7") that I've dubbed the poor guy's/gal's IPad - it costs much less to buy and to operate. The PanDigital is in color, you can surf the net and use e-mail. So far, I've only downloaded some e-books, but haven't tried its other functions. I don't know about the Nook, but it's my understanding that an IPad requires a monthly charge of approximately $15.00. Like the Nook, my PanDigital is linked to Barnes & Noble whereas the Kindle is linked to Amazon.

If your primary interest is for an e-reader, I very highly recommend the Kindle.

Ipad is Wifi and G3. You only pay for the G3 service if you have it. At the start you have a decision to make to pay the extra bucks for being able to enable 3G.

I have one. I only have the wifi set up now. I see no need for the 3G while traveling in north America but should I want it I can get a Sim card for where ever I am and join a phone network for a short time. It does not work as a cell phone however.

The Ipad is like a mini computer plus all the thousands of Apps you can get. Has email web browser etc etc. Does not allow "Flash"

It has replaced a lap top for us.

I am a book reader but I have not downloaded any books other than a few freebies just to see. Seems to work well for the limited amount of time I have used it to read.

Price is only negative thing about them. Love it.

Bought iPad 32G wifi during my Oasis-vacation.
Since they do not sell it yet here in Finland I had to buy it on my vacation.
I just love my iPad, the best thing I have bought in a long time!
Have not bought books yet but later I will, there are many places where you can buy the books from.
Did buy one e-magazine just to try how it it and I love it.

I am happy with my Kindle to read books. I live in an area with only marginal cell phone service have to pick and choose where they work in house. Have now read 3 books on Kindle--have to watch reading the tesers though who ever heard of reading only part of book. I fell for first 30 chapters of James Patterson new book so now will have to buy at 12+ dollars. Learning more every day abt my Kindle--gotta remember I don't have to reach to top of page to turn the page---suh.

You can learn more about the nook here: NOOK, NOOK Wi-Fi, NOOK 3G eReader, eBook Reader - Barnes#&#Noble

You can also see a comparison here. Barnes & Noble Compares Nook to Kindle 2: Biased But Fair Scroll down and then click on the chart to make it larger.

I like that I have a nook app on my iPhone, which means that when I am in line somewhere, or waiting at the doctor's office, I can read the same book I am reading at home in bed at night. Added: It appears you can do that with a Kindle, too. Very nice!

But honestly, no matter how much we like the ereaders we have, the best thing for you to do is handle each one and see what feels the best for you personally. Good Luck and let us know what you decide!
