Hot again for Central US; stormy East & West

Midwest
* Hotter than average temperatures expected in the Plains and Mississippi Valley
* Several spots should threaten record highs today
* Highs will range from around 80 near Lake Superior to the 100s in the Central Plains
* Showers & storms are also expected in the Mississippi Valley today & tonight
* Storms should spread toward the western Great Lakes overnight
* Some severe storms are possible in the Mid-Mississippi Valley and in northern parts of Minnesota & North Dakota
South
* Hotter than average temperatures expected for much of the region
* The greatest departures from average should be in the Southern Plains and Lower Mississippi Valley
* Highs will range from the 80s in the Southern Appalachians and along the Virginia Coast to near 110 in Oklahoma and North Texas
* Showers & storms are possible from the Florida Panhandle to the North Carolina Outer Banks
* Some locally heavy downpours are possible with any storms that develop today
Northeast
* Showers & storms possible from New England to the Mid-Atlantic Coast today
* Showers & storms should continue in New England this evening
* Cooler than average temperatures are expected in New England
* Highs will range from the 60s along the New England Coast to around 90 near Chesapeake Bay
West
* Afternoon and evening storms are possible from the Southwest into the Northern High Plains
* Some storms are also possible in the higher elevations of western Montana
* Hotter than average temperatures are expected in the High Plains
* Cooler than average temperatures are expected in the Southwest
* Highs will range from the 60s along the Northern California and Pacific Northwest Coast to the 100s
