I was on my pc tonight and Kiefer came to me with a worried look on his face. I always pay attention cause I'm a crazy mom, and I suddenly realized I was hearing sirens. I ran upstairs and out on the upper deck, and suddenly heard an explosion! Turned to find it, and saw this huge black plume of smoke, and I knew it was the Chevron refinery on fire! Ran in, yelled at Gordon to turn on the news, and ran back to my pc to see if I could find some news about what I was seeing.

We are in a level 3 shelter in place right now, the highest warning level for this kind of event. It's been expanded to 4 towns now, the rapid transit system is shut down, and the sky was very dark by 7pm.

The sirens will continue every half hour while this is going on, and Kiefer is going nuts! He wants to go outside, but that is not going to happen.

I have a pic of the cloud as it was heading over our house. It wasn't too bad then, but it has gotten much worse. This is from our dining room window. Scary stuff!

This Chevron refinery fire can cause a problem for all of us in California regarding gasoline. California has very strict emission standards, and there are not that many places that can refine it... here, Texas and Finland, of all places. So gas $ may jump way up in the immediate future. great... it's already going up every day.

Yup, it appears containment was at 11:15 last night. Hurrah! Pretty scary watching that ugly black cloud move around.
