I do not know if it is true or not...but I have read many times that if you tip your steward and waiters "the old fashioned way" it all goes into a pool (or in some cases the hot tub) any way!
On one cruise we asked our room steward how they like the auto tipping & he said that they prefered it as they got more. Every one got their share. Whereas with the old way not every one tipped.

I like the auto tipping. It takes the guess work out of figuring out who I should tip, how much, etc. We also give a little something extra to those that go above and beyond average service.
Auto tip really comes in handy when we choose anytime dining. Since we often have different wait staff different nights I know they all are taken care of at the end of the cruise.

Ruby Princess Eastern 10/10

Emerald Princess Southern 10/08
Caribbean Princess Bahamas 5/08
Caribbean Princess Eastern 9/07
Caribbean Princess Western 10/06
Carnival Fantasy Bahamas 7/05
I don't mind auto-tipping at all. There's nothing that says I can't hand a steward/stewardess additional for excellent service. Some luxury lines have gone all-inclusive, including gratuties, where tipping is not expected and not permitted.

Love it - makes it one less thing I have to worry about! I also tip extra if they do a good job and I always let them know I have auto tipped!

I like it! It releives us of having to remember to set aside and portion out our cash. Plus we know that everyone, even the Lido staff et al, are now getting what they deserve. Some people were in the habit of stiffing the service personnel
...and some people wear ballcaps into the dining areas--"you can dress them up, but you can't take them out!" Too bad that some people have neither common decency, manners nor compassion. It's really a shame that as hard as the staff works to make your vacation wonderful, there are still some people who will be mysteriously absent from the dining room on tip night. We've eaten at a specialty restaurant on a couple of occasions on the last night, but still make the trek to the MDR to give our hard-working waitstaff (okay, the Maitre d', too!) their tips. It's only right.

Done this always since my first cruise in September 2001.
I think everybody's tips should be included to the cruise price so you can't sneak without paying the tips.

I didn't care for it when it first came out. Especially since it was communicated that the tips were dispersed to other people behind the scenes. When opting out, they would try hard to talk people out of it. Now I don't mind it because I'm use to it.
