DCL Disney Magic Sounds emergency horn to warn sailboats in its path

What do you think of these sail boats in the ships path?

How stupid can they possibly be????? That's like an 18 wheeler trying to dodge a tricycle!

The five short blasts of the ship's horn means, "I don't understand your intentions or actions" and is used in a crossing situation where other signals have not been given (such as, "I intend to pass you on the port side"). The pleasure boats were close, and not under sail, so really didn't have an excuse to play with the larger, less manuverable vessel like that. If they went CRUNCH, their insurance would likely not have paid!

I swear some of those sailboat people are just trying to show off -- wanting the passengers on the ship to know that they have their own boat and can sail anytime they want to and not just for a few days.

In 2004 on a repositioning cruise from Ft Lauderdale to Montreal -- after we had left Halifax -- in the middle of the night we were all abruptly awakened when the ship blew its whistle and made a very sharp turn -- everything all over the ship flew everywhere -- off shelves and counters, etc. A small fishing boat cut right in front of us. We were just yards from smashing it to bits.

Cruising is a wonderful way to enjoy retirement.
