    Welcome to Cruise @ddicts.

It has been years since we sailed on NCL.

We have done quite a few full Panama Canal cruise -- they are great.

Cruising is a wonderful way to enjoy retirement.

Read the book, "Path Between the Seas," by David McCullough. It's a fascinating explanation of how the canal came to be, how it was made, and the drama behind the whole enterprise. Surely a must-read before anyone sees the canal--it reads like a novel, even though it's historically accurate.

I was going to recommend the book too.. That cruise is a great trip .. The front of the ship and viewing from there will be crowded. Views from the aft are great as you go though the locks also & perhaps will be easier to secure a spot to sit and watch it all go by. Go down onto a open deck when it the lock. See if you can touch.
We are all here...cause we are not all there.

Canal cruises are great. Even partial transits are worthwhile. Full transits are better, but anyone that has a chance to do only a partial transit TAKE IT.

Find out when you will be approaching the Canal channel. Probably about O dark thirty. Regardless, be awake and on deck to view the many many ships riding at anchor outside the Canal.. Evidently commercial ships that do not have a strict schedule can wait outside until the Canal calls them to the locks and they pay a greatly reduced rate. You'll see every size and type ship you ever imagined and many you'd never imagine. And don't worry about the banks caving in as you go through the cut, it happens all the time,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, :)

Earl, with all the money you have received from Nigeria, you can pay your own way.

The canal is something everyone should do, like for us, the Colorado River, it is a once in a lifetime
    experience.
Like for you taking the train to Alice Springs

Plan on an experience, and in a mini... woo hoo

If your ship docks, take the small boat excursion through the canal. It is really intersting to see it from a different perspective. With the huge giant freighters being in front and behind, it makes one feel like an insect in comparison. You get to "touch" the walls doing it this route.
