Deciding when to go on holiday is hard enough and the Caribbean is the choice but going on the right time for the cruise is crucial as well.

Average year round temperatures the Caribbean are 78 to 85 f with lows o 65f and a high of 95f. Built up areas will always seem to be unbearably hot. There is a low season run from approx. mid-September through April.

Many travellers book at this time with families with school aged children, so book in advance to avoid the expensive prices during this crowed time. New cruise ships have entered the market so can book relatively close tom your departure date and still have a room but it might not be to your preference.

Summer cruise offers its advantages: temperatures, island flora are at its most dramatic, water is clearer, always a breeze but never enough to rock the cruise ship.

Hurricane seasons runs a full six months of the year from the 1st of June to November. The cruise lines will stay clear of these storms, hurricanes and tropical storms but their effects can the Caribbean for days and damage ports which can force last-minute itinerary changes.

One thing to consider is that Debby was kind of a strange storm. The two main computer models predicted two different directions which is pretty unusual. Normally forecasters have a much more accurate picture of what path a storm is going to take.

To answer your question, the cruise lines all have teams that monitors these storms. Those people make the decision as to whether or not to alter an itinerary on a case by case basis.

Welcome to Florida. I hope you enjoy it here as much as I do.

I love the storms. I love the "day at sea" instead of port days.
