What's the strangest thing that's happened to you on a cruise ship?

OK - think back over your cruises. What's the strangest thing that has happened to you, personally, on a cruise?

Hopefully, we'll have some great replies. I'll post my own later in the thread.

When I was on the Sun Viking in 92 to Mexico, some guests tried to tell me Mike Ditka was on board, I said naw, but they said yes. So I approached the guy and asked him if he was Mike Ditka, and he said no, a few days later the same guests tried to tell me that the same guy was so and so. A few days after that, when leaving the dining room, I saw this guest and asked "Are you sure you aren't Mike Ditka?" He said no, and then I asked, "Let me see some i d". He pulled out his police badge and I never bothered that man again.

You mean like ghosts and goblins? :-) No.

But on my second cruise I was on a beach in St. Maarten. At that point I had a bag from a local auto dealer that held my sun glasses, sun block, book, etc. While I was on the beach a couple walked up to me and asked if I was from Bloomfield, NJ. I said yes, and they introduced themselves and said they were from the town next door.

I'll have to think a bit more about strange experiences on the ship, yet I have one from off the ship that is similar to Charles'. We were in Italy, exploring one of the major attractions, when a woman came up to us and asked if we were from Boston. (Our son was wearing a Red Sox shirt.) I turned around some more, and who comes up beside her but someone I know... her new husband, one of the personal trainers at my gym. I knew they were honeymooning in Italy, yet the odds that we would be in the same city, the same attraction, and the same spot within that attraction at the same time were pretty slim. The place -- Pompeii. Those who have been there know how vast it is, which makes it even more incredible.

While on the Carnival Victory late at nite they stopped the ship in the middle of the sea to calibrate the ships compass. They would rotate the ship 5 degrees and stop and do it again until they covered the whole compass. I was on the deck above the bridge and i was able to see the officers up there working on that outside compass thing and they would radio back to the bridge the headings. I don't think anyone really knew the ship was even stopped.

We are thinking...but I think our cruises have been pretty tame/lame in the strangeness category.

Once on a cruise that left out of Bayone NJ, as the ship entered into the Bermuda Triangle the tv programing and canned music onboard was 1950's vintage for that whole day with no explination. The better half just reminded me that the capitan or meaby the cruise director was doing news reports as if we had traveled back in time. Lou
