High winds and rough sea conditions are affecting cruise lines operating around Florida causing delayed itineraries and damage to at least one ship.
“If you are scheduled to bring someone or if you are lucky enough to be departing on a cruise vacation later today, please be advised that you do not need to come to the cruise terminal until after 3pm today” Nancy Rubin with Jacksonville, Florida’s Jaxport told WKOV.com.
Bad weather had caused some downed trees and power outages across coastal areas this morning#is also causing delays on the Carnival Fascination that sails from Jacksonville.
Rubin said the cruise liner will be late arriving and departing due to the stormy weather offshore.
Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas, currently sailing, came upon high winds and seas, causing damage to the ship but no delay or modification of it’s itinerary.# In a statement, Royal Caribbean said
Sunday at approximately 7:30 p.m. after departing Port Canaveral, Florida, Royal Caribbean International‘s Freedom of the Seas experienced extreme wind and sea conditions, well beyond what was forecasted.# The ship experienced wind speeds more than three times what was forecasted.# The combination of the wind and sea conditions caused severe ship movement.# AtRelated articles
this time there have not been any serious injuries reported. The ship has sustained some damage to the public areas and guest staterooms, which in no way affect the sea-worthiness of the ship.
Freedom of the Seas continues on its regularly scheduled seven-night itinerary, which includes port calls to CocoCay, Bahamas; Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas; and Phillipburg, St. Maarten.# The ship and will be arriving in Coco Cay, Bahamas, Monday morning, as scheduled.
