Disney Cruise Line’s new Disney Fantasy received its final “building block” recently at the Meyer Werft shipyard, completing the last major step in the ship’s construction. Details aboard the ship will now be finished as it prepares to be moved from Germany to Florida next year for its maiden voyage in March.# Meanwhile, far away in Hawaii and far from the closest Disney theme park, Disney’s new Aulani resort opens its doors to the first guests.

Disney Fantasy is the sister-ship to the recently-launched Disney Dream and includes the popular AquaDuck water coaster, a new show for the Animator’s Palate restaurant called “Animation Magic,” a Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, and the Broadway-style stage show “Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular.”

All ready to go, Disney’s new upscale Hawaiian resort Aulani opened this week and while Mickey and Minnie can be found beachside, Hawaiian culture and natural beauty are the featured throughout the guest experience.

“The resort is not a replication of any of our theme parks,” Djuan Rivers, a Disney vice president who oversees the resort told the Associated Press. “We know if guests want to go to Disneyland, they’ll go to Disneyland. Our guests are coming here first and foremost for Hawai‘i and everything Hawai‘i has to offer.”

This time-lapse video shows construction of the 840-unit resort, the first major Disney property to offer a mix of regular hotel rooms and Disney Vacation Club timeshares away from a theme park.
