Returning to ship at port after excursion

I have an excursion booked in Cozumel from 10 am to 3 pm on 7/17/12. Carnival Legend will be in port from 8am to 4pm. My excursion will end in town and I will have to take a taxi to get back to the cruise terminal (It appears to be a 10-15 minute taxi ride). On carnival.com, it states that you must be on the ship 30 minutes prior to departure. Can anyone tell me if it is feasible to end an excursion at 3 pm, catch a taxi and get back to the Carnival Legend by 3:30. Will Carnival refuse admittance if it is a few minutes past 3:30 even if the ship is still sitting at the dock? I have never cruised before, so I want to make sure I am doing things correctly. Thank you.

Is this a ship sponsered tour or one you are doing privately?

You might be cutting it close IMO

Can you end a trip in town and make it back on the ship in 30 minutes? Yes. If the gangplank is still up then you will be allowed to board. The gangplank is one of the last things taken down before the ship leaves.

That said, you are cutting it very close.

Bring your passport and your money and bring your camera with you. this way if you are late
you can take a picture of the ship as its leaves port.

I am super cautious, but I wouldn't even consider it.

I only book the ones sponsored by the ship but I wouldn't book anything that only leaves me an hour to get back and on the ship.. I would be too nervous and not enjoy the excursion as much cause I would be worrying the whole time
