The Canetto is the free restaurant on the HAL . If one dines there, is one expected to tip the waiter at the end of the meal ?

We always tip the staff in the Canaletto.
The last couple of weeks -- 3 ships are now charging for the Canaletto -- Zuiderdam, Westerdam and Oosterdam.
On those 3 ships it is $10 per person. And with that price they are including a glass of house wine, a glass of beer or a glass of soda.
Don't know if this will be going fleet wise or not.

I am not sure if we are "expected to tip " we ate there once and I am sure we did service was great, not sure if I would tip if service was not. Since there is a service charge that is added to your account for the general pool.
Yes -- the Canaletto workers do get a tiny portion of the Hotel Service Charge.
We are just accustomed to tipping when we have good service.

KK, thanks for the heads-up about the fee on Westerdam.

Looking forward to Norwegian Star, Baltic Capitals, July 2013
We LOVE Canaletto! If they charged $10.00 for it, we'd gladly pay! We typically tip in Canaletto and the Pinnacle Grill.
Our plans are to board Amsterdam and immediately go to the Pinnacle and Canaletto to make reservations!![]()

The Pinnacle Grill we always tip. The Canalette I wasn`t sure , now I know ! thank you!
We enjoyed the Canaletto on the Amsterdam and the Noordam.
But on the Maasdam -- horrible service - food was bad. As a result in 25 days we only went one time.

we eat at Canaletto twice last week on Veendam food was very good ( still no charge )
After our bad experience on the Maasdam, I don't know if we will go to the Canaletto on our next cruise.
