Burnt Pan Remedy

Last week while I was cooking dinner, I got distracted and severely burnt the sauce pan and the food in it. I had burnt green beans stuck to the pan that left black marks inside and outside. I thought Rick was going to kill me., you see, loving to cook, he is very protective of the cookware. Needless to say, I assured him that I would get the pan to look like new. Personally, I thought the pan was a goner. After several different cleaning attempts failed I hit the internet HOW TO search. I came across this method, it is so simple, and it is hard to believe that is works

All that you need to is get is a can of cola (preferably something like Coke or Pepsi). When you have that in hand, take your burnt pan to the stove and pour the cola into it. Now you turn on the heat for that burner, and simply bring the cola to a boil. You might want to try stirring the cola every once in a while as it is coming to a boil, you don't have to necessarily, but it seems to help a little. Once you have reached a boil, remove the saucepan from the heat and "wash" out the cola using hot water. The food should rinse away with no problems, but feel free to repeat as often as necessary

I was at a point that I would try any thing. Well let me tell you within in seconds the pan is like new. Who knew Coke could do such an amazing thing.

I am out of the dog house:dance::dance::dance:

boiling baking soda and water in a pan also can do the trick.

Have you ever wondered what cola does to your insides when you see what it did to the pan?:eek:

We don't drink cola around here - and I would not go to the store to buy some just to clean a pan.

BUT -- many, many years ago when I was learning to cook (okay -- I confess -- over 60 years ago) -- I burnt food in a pan -- mother just took the pan and cleaned it out with baking soda.

Boy -- Jeanie -- what a week you have had.

Yes I did, a fun week it was.

Baking soda was my first choice & did not work. I have to admit, I love my diet coke or pepsi. What can I say

I read somewhere that if you put a dryer softner sheet in the burnt pan and cover with water and soak overnight that is supposed to work. Haven't burnt a pan lately so don't know if it works or not.

hehe... yeah soda is a terrible thing... along with it being slightly caustic, it is also containing that demon HFCS... the sweetner that actually tells your body to store it as fat rather than convert it to energy... evil i tell ya, evil!!!

Well what can i say, my fairly new sauce pan that belongs to a set that was badly burnt and not usable is now clean & usable. I use coke to clean it not drink it.

Some of us drink soda and some don't, we all have vices, if we did not the world would be perfect..

Happy Holidays

Jeanie - does the "once-burnt" pan have non-stick lining (Teflon)? If it does, what you've done can be very dangerous - in addition to being the recipient of Rick's wrath!

Without going into great detail, heated to a certain temperature, Teflon is toxic. Let's just say I have a pretty thorough knowledge of Teflon and its properties - going back to 1952.

I would think that, as long as you don't boil it, your stomach should be fine...

Yes Glo... just do not mix it with burnt beans and try to drink it.

Mr. D.... I admit to drinking the occasional coke product.. usually as a mix in a tall glass.....

NO, it is not Teflon

Thanks Maryann for your input. It took me three days to clean this pan using all the methods above before the coke. Just wanted to share something that finally got the job done.
