A couple of what's!!!

I have just cancelled a cruise that I have looked forward to for more than a year. With our tanking Canadian dollar a choice had to be made. Our California coastal cruise on the Crown Princess or our trip to Hawaii in the New Year with our family. It truly was a "no Brainer" and Hawaii it is going to be! It did set me thinking of cruises I have done in the past, what has been my favourite cruise and what cruise do I desire to do next?

For me my favourite cruise to date was the Baltic cruise we did several years ago. I think someday I must go back to St. Petersburg!
The most simple cruises for me are those that depart from the west coast of North America...a California coastal, Mexico or Alaska. I love the California Coastals but for me Alaska is "been there, done that."
I am now obsessed with the idea of doing a River Cruise....and I think it must be the rivers of France to begin.

....and now my questions for you...

!. What was your favourite cruise?
2. What is the easiest area for you to cruise?
3. What are you dreaming about for your next cruise?

Inquiring minds want to know and you might just give me a new idea to explore!

1-Favorite cruise would have to be in 2001 we did was in 2001 cruise from Athens to Rome on a new Renaissance ship that was adults only and non smoking, great little ship
2- this may not be easiest but my favorite port to sail from is NYC since I was born and raised there and we visit every year

3- We have booked my dream/bucket list cruise for next year, it is a 12 day cruise on RCCL in a grand suite out of Barcelona with 5 stops in Italy, have also been saving up frequent flyer miles so we have enough to go 1st class

Sorry you had to cancel your cruise.

Sorry you had to cancel your cruise.

We have enjoyed all our cruises as each port has something new to learn about.

After DH had his heart attack, our bucket list went down the drain. And now that I have mobility issues we stay with the Caribbean. We used to enjoy going to Alaska. But not having direct flights to anywhere makes traveling harder and harder.

George...love that you are doing your dream cruise....and 1st class all the way. I would love to visit Italy.

KK...I hear you about flights. No matter where we go from here we have to make connections...or drive to a "hub" city. It's a nuisance and generally there are added expenses as well.

1. Favorite cruise: Norway and Arctic Circle on Celebrity Century, 2007. What a beautiful part of the world. I would love to return.
2. Easiest area to cruise: Anywhere from Boston, which is why we go on so many Canada/New England and Bermuda cruises!
3. Dream for next cruise: Not that this is going to happen, but I'd love to cruise the South China Sea -- Taiwan, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and the Philippines. So much history! More realistically, we are hoping to do a transatlantic crossing on Queen Mary 2 in the next couple of years.

Sorry you had to cancel, Beryl!

1. My favorite cruise must have been my only Caribbean cruise from New Orleans. The reason for that is that it was a Cruise @ddicts group cruise so I met a lot of nice people on this board.

2. The Baltic sea is the closest area or me to cruise in, especially from Stockholm.

3. I saw a transatlantic crossing with Brilliance of the Seas from England to Ireland, Faroe Island, Iceland, Nova Scotia and Boston that looked really interesting. Of course I have not done Alaska yet so that is also a cruise that I really would like to do combined with a week or two driving around up there.

We usually cruise out of Florida, except for last year we cruised out of New Orleans with the Dream group cruise. So far we have only done Caribbean cruises and we're never disappointed with the beautiful sand beaches and crystal clear water.

We want to do a New England cruise and an Hawaii cruise in the near future.

KK, I too wonder what happened to the Golden Years.

Ah yes....the Golden Years. As the saying goes they "are not for sissies"! They can be tough on many of us. I am so fortunate to be able to have taken my Mom to Alaska on a cruise. We had such fun. We have also travelled with her to New Brunswick and Nova Scotia and DisneyWorld in recent years....and at 94 (almost) years old she is planning to come with all of the family to Maui for our little family reunion! The big decision for the Maui trip was whether to renew her passport for 5 years or for 10.:biggrin::clap:

Lisa...I would love to do that Norway/Arctic Circle cruise too....and I actually had just the shorter Norway cruise booked at one time.
Eric...smiling because you chose the Caribbean Cruise while I chose the Baltic! I guess the "grass is greener on the other side...."

Connie...so many people love the Hawaii cruise but if I'm going to Hawaii I want to spend every minute on the islands not at sea! I also would like to do a Canada/New England cruise though I am very familiar with all of that particular area. It would be an easy to do cruise for us!

Keep your thoughts coming .... I love reading about your thoughts and experiences...and your dreams too!

Also so sorry you had to cancel, Beryl...It's got to be hard to get excited about a cruise, then not get to go...

1. What was your favourite cruise?
Absolutely impossible question...but it's got to be some version of one of the Med/Europe cruises I've taken...I'll give you three: a) 16 nights Dover to Rome on Oceania Marina...b) 13 nights on Celebrity Silhouette Venice to Rome c) 14 nights Oceania Nautica Barcelona to Istanbul with visits to Tunesia, Egypt, Israel

2. What is the easiest area for you to cruise?
Mexican Riviera, Baja...Easy--I live in So Cal...It's an hour drive to port for those...

3. What are you dreaming about for your next cruise?
Well, we've got our next three cruises already booked--so I am dreaming about all of those...However, in the category of "dream cruises" I've not yet taken--and don't know when I'll be able to do them, here's my list: a) Southeast Asia b) South America around the Horn, c) Indian Ocean

Steve...Oceania is definitely a line that I want to try....but first it's a river cruise for me! ....or if I win the lottery a barge cruise in France!

What: South America on the Zenith.. Well they called it South America then. Really just Venazuela up the Orinoco River and Devils Island and a large dose of the Southern Caribbean. With friends and family it was great.2000

Fav Port. not really a port But a visit. the Panama Canal. Been back a few times.

The Suez .. But without a lottery win that first class air which is a must is a no go. The thought of going overseas ANYWHERE in a cramped silver cigar tube with my fellow steerage class is a no go. Lol

Bob, then you have to take an Atlantic crossing to Europe in April and back again in October...
Just tell me if you need a place to sleep for a couple of months!

Joanne...hope you get to do the Baltic cruse again. I would like to do a redo on that one too....and for the same reason! I want to go back to St. Petersburg. Friends of ours are just back from the same itinerary we did and they also loved it! I feel no longing to see Oz again. We lived there and I was fortunate enough to be able to see a great deal of the country. What I did miss was New Zealand and maybe one day we will do a land a trip there though I doubt it. If the space opens for you do jump on a land trip to Hawaii. I remember the days when I thought I didn't want to go to Hawaii. My idea was that it was just going to be too touristy for me. How wrong I was. Yes, Waikiki beach is a tourist mecca. But it is one tiny spot on only one of the beautiful islands of that state. I love Hawaii (for us we feel more at home on Maui than anywhere else) and would spend time on any island there any time!! I love that your travel calendar is full! Go while you can enjoy all the sights, sounds and flavours of beautiful places. Here's an idea for you....before you do your next Alaska cruise do a pre-cruise trip that includes Calgary, Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper, and a train trip through the Rocky Mountains to Vancouver! It is a fabulous trip!!
