I want to ask my girlfriend to marry me while on the Conquest. Any ideas how to surprise her?

Well on my last cruise a guy asked the Captain to help him during the Captains Cocktail Part (usually during the first formal night so everyone is dressed up). The Captain called the girlfriend to the stage and out came the boyfriend to propose to her. Of course she accepted and I think the band played Anchors Aweigh after that which was kind of strange but it was nice to see.

How romantic! She is a very lucky woman. Our DS#3 proposed to his DW on a cruise. They had a balcony cabin and he ordered a bottle of champagne and popped the ?. We knew about it before they went. DS#1 and DS #2 and their DW'es were with them (we got the collect call ship to shore from the future DW#3 all excited...cost us the price of an inside cabin :lol) How about...you go to karaoke....sing "your song" or...this just popped into my mind. I was very young when this was popular, but the Carpenters (OY) had some nice tunes..sing this at karaoke:
Love, look at the two of us
Strangers in many ways
We've got a lifetime to share
So much to say
And as we go
From day to day
I'll feel you close to you
But time alone will tell
Let's take a lifetime to say
"I knew you well"
For only time will tell us so
And love may grow
For all we know.

Love, look at the two of us
Strangers in many ways
Let's take a lifetime to say
"I knew you well"
For only time will tell us so
And love may grow
For all we know.

Clue the crewmember in and she can bring out a glass of champagne for the 2 of you...when you finish the song, bring it out to your lady and go down on bended knee....good luck. This is so awesome for you to do! I'll send you our address by PM for the wedding invitation :lol BON VOYAGE and happy lifetime :) :couple
Ask your waiter to put the ring on top of one of the desserts.

Hope that helps :)
The chocolate melting cake!!! They stick a little "pointy" chocolate candy in it-a perfect place to hang a ring :thumb
Mickeyboy7, :lol :nono :sniper :pistols :spank :flog Stop scaring the poor guy. He is in =love
BTW, any way your screen name is in honor of The Mick?

I'd do it in either on top of the dessert or hanging from whatever umbrella drink or wine she happens to be drinking.

Unless she is somebody that loves being the centre of attention I wouldn't have the captain call her up.

What a romantic you are!!!

mickeyboy7, I have been a Yankee fan since I was old enough to walk!!! My dad's company had season tix to every single home game, and he took me to them. My younger brothers couldn't be bothered, but I always LOVED the Yanks. Loge box seats :thumb I remember watching the Mick play when I was a very little girl...our entire basement is a "Yankee clubhouse" and we have one portion of a wall just devoted to Mick. My dad saved all the newspapers from big events and I have the Daily News from 5/30/56 in a frame with the headline: Mick: A Big Bronx bash. Yanks beat the Senators 4-3. And another from 5/22/63 with the headline BAM! Another Stadium Blast-Mantle came close again to clearing the roof (Yanks 8-A's 7 in 11) and 8/14/95 The Mick 1931-1995 with the quote by Showalter: a big part of the whole baseball world has passed away...DH's favorite players are Reggie and Mick, mine is Thurman :angel But your name still doesn't get you off the hook for your advice :grin (td)

Karry - you have extremely good taste at least as to baseball. I was at BOTH Mickey Mantle Days (it's true there were 2!!!) I lived and breathed Mickey...many a Sunday I sat out there in the old Yankee Stadium bleachers thru those long Sunday doubleheaders. I thought they went too fast. I went to 9 straight Opening Days during the lowly 60's. I'm really sad about this being the final year of the stadium...but also excited that they will keep most of the traditions going at the new stadium. I think Mr. Steinbrenner is showing class by not selling out and collecting millions on the naming rights of good old YANKEE STADIUM. I'm sure he can get mucho bucks by calling it say: THE CARNIVAL LEGEND FIELD. (td)

Well I'm kinda new to this advice stuff...but I'll try to do better for you in the future:thumb

Play Ball!!!

Jetblue, HA!!! I am younger than my years. I think all the chocolate melting cakes and Captain's Welcome Aboard Cocktail parties and repeater parties keep me young ;) That first newspaper article which my father saved...was before I was born! I can't help it if my dad is older than me! =shrug

mickeyboy7, I am really crushed they are making a new Stadium. There is just so much history in the old one. When we had the loge seats we had an usher show us to our seats. His name was Harry and he was probably about 80 yo, but always dusted our seats off, then tipped his cap and told us to have a nice game. We would slip a few $'s in his hand. We always went to every opening day game until the late 80's when my dad retired and the tix prices(if you could get them ) went thru the roof. We were at the opening day game in '96 when the "dynasty" started and there was a snow storm!!! The umpires were wearing red jackets!! We had a huge crowd of family and friends here for the last game of the WS and I had a poster tacked on my fridge and everyone signed it. I put on the top: it all started in a snow storm! We know Willy Randolph and Roy White personally and Yogi's grandson worked on the beach at the Jersey shore for my dad for years. Do U have that book "Yogiisms?" Dad gave that to us and Yogi signed it to us. One year our DS was a newborn on opening day, so I didn't go and DH bought a bib and had access to the players something or other and they all signed it. Chris Chambliss...I have it in a frame. Times have changed. And as much as I LOVE the Yankees, the $$ they make is ridiculous and I am so sick of all this steroid stuff. And I never thought of them as "heros" either. We lost some friends and neighbors and PATH cop friends on 9/11. Those are heroes...I was crushed when they let Torre go too. Thought Mattingly was going to take over. Not sure about Girardi...I DO really appreciate Steinbrenner's law about beards/long hair. NYY players look respectable...well, here's hoping the OP is not a BoSox fan :lol

Now, back to the topic!!! :couple My DS proposed on a big family/friends cruise, Sept 06. Did the deed on Half Moon Cay, our first stop, so we had more than my brothers 50th BD to celebrate. Just be careful, since she got engaged on an island, she wanted to marry on an island too!! So, darn, we all had to go to Hawaii for the wedding.:thumb Now they are trying to have babies, life goes on.

And be very careful with that engagement ring. She is not used to wearing it...make sure she takes it off before going for a swim or some tropical fish will find it and get the idea to propose to his girlfish and we'll have to figure out how HE can do it. :dizzy That was nice your DS did that on a family cruise. I am waiting for grandbabies too. :grin :thumb

Jeblue, this is nuts...I am also on Cruisecritics. Not as "active" as I am here, but they have so much info. I ADORE this site because everyone is like a next door neighbor we know and love and are comfortable with. So I was lurking on CCL forum on CC last night and there was a thread: anyone interested in a CC cruise on CCL Spirit to MR on 1/6/10. (from San Diego =adore) Thought they were nuts...went on CCL website and they have nothing for 2010. Went on cruise.com and they have cruises until 3/10 listed. So I blabbered that I would LOVE to go, but wanted to go over Super Bowl on 2/7/10,since it was so much fun this year. Well, it went on and on...I told "them" that it is chilly in Feb, let alone Jan, that on 1/6 I am still taking down my Xmas decorations!! Well, everyone piped in and they ALL want to go on a SB cruise now!!! The thread is honest to God 7 pages long and everyone is making plans already!!! Geez, I haven't actually figured out 2007 yet, am living in 2008 and planning for 2010!!! :dizzy DS #1 and his DW were over tonight and I said, if we do this, I have to plan a "no nookie" calandar for you and your brothers because they are planning to give me grandchildren (OY-I am too young!!) sooner rather than later and they are NOT messing up my cruise plans! You only live once...my mother has all the $ in the world and doesn't do ANYTHING because she is "afraid." Of EVERYTHING. And then complains because she never does anything. I am DETERMINED not to be like her. I work HARD 10-12 hours/day Mon-Friday. I entertain constantly. I never forget a b'day, ann'y or a special occasion. I have not had a pro haircut since I was preg with DS#3. I do my own hair, have never had a manicure or pedicure and on cruises I bring "my own" drinks. I shop at K-Mart or Sears and ONLY buy things when they are on sale. My house is beautiful and immaculate, I cook every night, I have "people" over all the time and cater to them, I have both families, DDL's families and friends who have no where else to go over every Xmas Eve and Day. I have a GORGEOUS garden every summer and I am a very pleasant and nice woman to anyone I meet and would never hesitate to help anyone whom I thought was in need....not tooting my own horn, or patting myself on the back, but everything I do in my day to day life is for OTHER people. I am not alone, there are probably a million other people who do the same thing...but...Cruises are MINE. So if that's what I want to do, that's what I am going to do. I am EXTREMELY lucky that I have found something I love so much and I truly and absolutely adore cruises. We are not poor by any means...google Ridgewood, NJ and see what a beautiful town this is. But we have to "pinch pennies." DH is a cop...taxes here are sky high. When he gets a raise, $ goes in his pocket, then out cuz we are paying taxes for his raise! I have worked for my Orthopedic Surgeons for 31 years and make $16/hour with NO HOLIDAYS, SICK OR VACATION TIME. And no lunch time either!!! Every time I go on a cruise is like the lst time to me. Stepping on board a ship, no matter if I have been on her before, is like magic to me. I feel like a little kid who comes down on Christmas morning to see what Santa has left him. So...yea... I am thinking about 2010 and God willing I am healthy, DH is healthy, my kids and their DW are doing well...since 5/06 I have had 3 kids who got married. I did the bridal showers for their now wives, I did the rehearsal dinners at our home, I had the "men" here to eat, drink and dress before the wedding. (I was actually putting on my make up for all 3 in the car going to the wedding cuz I didn't have any room here lol) Looking back I can't figure out how I did it. Love, maybe...not thinking of myself, but all the rest of them....treasuring even the crazy moments, and comforting and calming them when things went wacky, when inside I was going nuts too!!! I did all this. I would do it again, and am sure I will :lol So, the cruises...they're mine...the sunsets and sunrises and the whole excitement and even the tough steak and rubbery lobster...everything is okay because I am out there, where I want to be...geez, this is like a diary and such an innocent comment!!! Sorry...that is what cruising is for me. Crazy life....had MANY extremely serious medical problems for many many years, but by the grace of God, I "overcame them." And I guess a little bit, I got my reward..whoever is "up there" watching over us remembered all the days I "lost" in hospitals, knew all the pain I went thru with so many tests and treatments and surgeries in the days when they didn't have the sophisticated medical knowledge they have now...and gave back to me. Not many people are so lucky, so I never, ever take it for granted and always count my blessings, and always, ALWAYS, when I am "out there" whisper a little thank You. .So, yeah! 2010! Bring it on. You only live ONCE. And I am so happy to be here. :grin

Karry I love how I can ask you one innocent question and I get your life story in return. :lol You sound like a great person who is always helping others and for that you deserve those cruises. Keep them stories coming but please learn how to use a digital camera so you can bring back some memories to share with us!

Here's wishing you many more happy Bon Voyages! :)-D

The minute I pressed send I thought I shouldn't have...sorry to "bore you." I LOVE my 35 mm camera with rolled film! My camera was "stolen" on our Crown Princess cruise. I say "stolen" in quotes because I refuse to this day to think someone would do that...our name and phone #'s were in the case...if they needed the camera, okay, but I had 3 rolls of film undeveloped in the case and one roll with about 3 shots left in the camera :( Wish "they" had at least mailed that back to us. Anyway, my boys and their DW'es gave me another one for Xmas! :) I love this thing. It is smaller than the one I had. I told E that I would mail him some "regular pix" and he said he would try to post them. Will do that when they get back from the cruise. I took some absolutely FABULOUS pictures this cruise. That camera is :thumb :thumb BTW, Jetblue...that's what happens when you ask an innocent question to a woman. You have to perfect your "no, I am not listening to you, but making you think I am" glazed eye expression. My DH can tell you how to do it like a pro :) Thanks for your nice thoughts. Sometimes I tend to "blabber." Did U ever watch All in the Family? (showing my age again :lol) I am Edith and DH is Archie when she is ranting about something and he mimics putting a noose around his neck =shrug
