I got a quote for an April 3rd cruise catagory BC (balcony) from San Diego round trip including air for $2700 per person. Base fare is $1649 then there are lots of add on junk fees etc. I believe air fare is around $890. Base fare for an inside cabin is $1249. Now I have to think about it. Seems a bit pricey to me for 10 days.

I was discussing this with folks on another forum and they are saying that the price for the Paul Gaugin for 7 days, including air fare, is possibly a better deal when you compare the included amenities vs. Princess' nickel diming. Also, Princess is touting this as a 10 day cruise but one of those days may be on board the plane with only 9 nights aboard the ship.

I'm going to be looking into both options when I get more information on Princess' offerings. It's far too sketchy for now so rumors abound.

    Looks like I was wrong:

    Day 1 Papeete (overnight)
    Day 2 Papeete depart 5pm
    Day 3 Huahine 8am-5pm
    Day 4 At Sea
    Day 5 Rarotonga 8am-5pm
    Day 6 At Sea
    Day 7 Raiatea noon-11pm
    Day 8 Moorea 8am-5pm
Day 9 Bora Bora arrive 8am
Day 10 Bora Bora depart 5pm
    Day 11 Papeete arrive am

If that overnight on Papeete is aboard ship it is 10 nights. That is supposed to be a very nice ship too.

The sailings are for 10 nights on the newly leased ships for Princess. The airfare for this is what is a real killer. I know it usually runs us about $1500 pp from here in the midwest, UGH! I think if we decide (like there is going to be any doubt) on a future cruise again down that way with them we will do a back to back, it makes that airfare a lot easier to live with. Either that or save up those airmiles and go that route as this is on the list for furture cruises as long as reports and reviews come back with a postive note.

  5. Frank,
Kim and Lori both have much better prices for special dates. ASk them each for a quote....We got a better rate for March 24. Are you able to fly out of LAX? Also, there are three itineraries.

It is Tahiti. Plus, prices on the cabin could go down. The problem is getting there. I will pay that because I want to do Tahiti. I won't go back year after year, but I have to do it once.

I'm not sure what airlines fly to Tahiti that one might have FF miles for. Suppose to be an Air Tahiti Nui but I don't know who they partner with. Yes, the long flight is a killer. It's even worse for a 7 day cruise vs. a 10.

I understand that Radisson's prices include air.

Just for grins had our agent check with Princess today for fares on 12/19. Love Boat Saver fares for prior passengers in Catagory E, outside with window, was $1,899. Catagory D, outside with window, was $1,939. Catagory BD, outside with balcony, was $2,099. Airfare was $849. All prices per person, double.

Based on just rough calculations we came up with about $210 person/per day for the Tahiti cruise (cruise only). Our past Caribbean cruises worked out to about $200 person/per day so not really much of a mark-up.

We figured we could do three Caribbean cruises for the cost of one Tahiti cruise, though. I forsee rum punch and reggae in our future.

From other forums many people like the idea that Radisson includes the airfare and uses scheduled Air Tahit Nui opposed to Princess where airfare is not included and might use charter company Omni Air which some say has a bad rep.

Got a price on Tahitian Princess from Cruise Match, Inc. - Balcony cabin w/air from Baltimore, all taxes, transfers, port charges, and insurance - around $2350 for March 4 or March 14. Compared to other prices, I don't think that's too bad. I have to make a decision in a couple of days. What is wrong with OMNI charter?

I've flown on Omni charters several times (Renaissance used to use them). They were fine--in fact, a couple of the planes had more legroom in coach than our usual Delta flights. The food was typical airplane meals, meaning not great, but the movies offered were current. The flight attendants and service were better than the usual scheduled airlines. I don't know why they've gotten such a bad rap.

When you think about it, that price really doesn't sound so bad for what you are getting. Tahiti is one of the most beautiful places on earth IMHO and well worth a little more than you are used to paying for the experience. But that flight down and back, GRRRR now that is another matter altogether. :(

Air Tahiti Nui is partnered with American Airlines. If you have 70,000 miles that would get you a free roundtrip on the ATN.

That's great news. AA has most of my miles. I'm using them next month for free business class service from SFO to Barcelona for a Celebrity cruise I'm taking of Europe. That could work for me with Air Tahiti Nui. Thanks.
