How are we doing? The State of Cruise Addicts

Hi Everyone, I wanted to write and ask everyone for an honest assessment on how we as a community are doing. I've personally been very focused on the communities software updates and made some major changes. The most noticeable was our Forums transfer to new software (isn't it fancy?). This was then followed by new Photo Gallery software and many other areas. Are you enjoying these changes? Its all pretty and works together nicely compared to the early days or our community.

I've thought about writing some sappy notes about users from our past (were almost 11yrs old now). However, I've reconciled that people come and go from forums unfortunately. I don't want this forum to become boring so I'm going to start posting more (even if I talk to myself... which I do regularly). If your a past user I hope you will join me in conversation. If I get too crazy maybe Suer will delete my posts.

I would love your suggestions, critiques, praises or just plain posting. :thankyou:

John, I'm pretty much computer challenged so I don't know anything about software & posting pictures (if I knew how I'd post pics of my new granddaughter). What I do know is that even though I am not computer savvy I can EASILY make my way around this sight & find out anything I want to know about cruising as well as almost anything else you need info on. Put out any question & someone jumps in to answer NO MATTER what you might be asking.

The folks that regularly post on the Aft forum are a great bunch; always eager to welcome & assist any newbies in any way they can. As for those from the past, that for whatever reason chose to leave & not return to Cruise Addicts it is their loss & I certainly wouldn't waste any time worrying about them. There is absolutely no way you can please 100% of the people 100% of the time. All you can do is your best & from my little corner of the world I believe you have developed the best Cruise Information site out there. I will be the first to admit that I don't have a clue as to what is involved in keeping this site up and running but I certainly do appreciate all of your time & effort at keeping this site available to all of us.

John I agree with Kathy. This is a wonderful site and I would be lost without.
Kathy go to E's instructions on how to post photos. It's so easy I couldn't believe it. It was fun doing it. He also has instructions on how to put a photo in a post. I haven't read them yet so can't comment on those. John I really like the new photo galley (can't make a comparison since I didn't use the old one).

:doubleup:John, Kathy summed it up pretty well. I miss a lot of posters who were regulars but have moved on but that is how friendships in life go unfortunately. I wish them all well in whatever their pursuits. As for @ddicts as a site…it’s looking GREAT. Being the biggest doesn’t necessarily mean being the BEST…..Cruise-@ddicts IS the BEST cruise site on the Net and it is home. :thankyou:

and ps....look forward to :spyglass:seeing you post more often

OK.....where can I find E's instructions on how to post in the gallery?

John, as far as the site....I'll admit I liked the site better before this last "upgrade". There are features I don't use any longer since I'm NOT tech savvy and just can't figure them out (i.e., photo gallery). And I really, really miss E being able to do the bon voyage posts the way they used to be done. It always felt so personal before. But E and Red do a great job with what they have to work with. I also miss the fact that after I submit a post, the site doesn't automatically take me back to the forum page and instead stays within that thread.

But the people here are wonderful and caring people and I can't imagine being any place else!

I agree with all the above posters. It's the first (OK second) place I go on the computer every morning, and I check for updates throughout the day. I love this site! I only have one complaint and it's not worth mentioning!

Keep up all your hard good work!

I love all the changed that have gone on the last couple of years.

I don't post pictures as I don't belong to any of those sites like photobucket, etc.

I am among those that joined years and years ago -- but wasn't impressed with the site way back then -- I think I joined in 2001. So I left -- came back -- left. And now with all the changes -- I am here a lot now.

Just wish the HAL section was more active.

Hi Capt. John - Too funny that you post this as just this morning I was wondering where you had gotten off to.

I love the C@ Forums, and I see that our Community is steadily growing. we've had many new members this year and I hope they all have felt welcomed when they come. Currently I can't think of anything that needs changing...you've done good!

I want to thank you, and all of your Elves, for every bit of the hard work that you, and they, do on a daily basis for us. :cheer:

Well, I can't say I am tech saavy, but not a ignoramus either. The board seems to be running better now than it has in the past. I appreciate the effort to segregate the themes (cruise line, ports, etc) also REALLY appreciate the community board.

Like Corky, I want to thank all the elves in the background that help keep us straight. I have no idea what it REALLY takes to keep the lights on here, but I certainly appreciate that they are on.

    Keep up the good work.

Well, I have been here since almost the beginning - think I missed the first two months! lol Anyway - -I like the board now more than ever. I think it is easy to move around and locate items. Of course, there are some things I don't like - but I try to overlook those -

This is a "Home" place. You can be gone for awhile as we all have lives - but you still come back here and feel comfortable. We all seem to have our own little way to contirbute - yet others help us out when we are away.

I really consider EVERYONE on here a friend and not just a place to chat or write items of interest.

I am sure between all our posters - - there isn't a cruise question that can not be answered with confidence. And that is what I like.

Thanks for all you put into the board and the community.

Alright ... Now stop kissin U know what and come clean. We know U are out there whether it be lurking or just itching (NO Pun Intended) to post yer REAL thoughts. MANY of US have heard the sniplets from behind the curtains and I am sure the Captain has had some passed along at one time or another.

For those of U that do NOT know Captain John he rarely gives a so called ANY of Us a "Get Out of Jail Card Free" opportunity. Here is your opportunity to vent ALL your frustrations and voice yer opinions. As the sayin goes ... Speak NOW or forever HOLD yer Peace.

For those shy individuals (yeah right) the opportunity I sure is also welcome as ALWAYS to transpond your thoughts via a PM or Email to the Capitain. He has located some down time and wants BOTH the positives and negative vibes that ALL Community members have been harvesting over the past days, months, or even years.

The BullsEye has been Hung so Go For It and let ALL those pented UP frustrations out!!! :madd:

OK for me I REALLY wanna go back to the one or two forum arena of the EARLY years. One Cruise Forum & One Off Topic forum would serve the purpose. OK see I said IT. Now how about ALL of U???

OK a 2nd one before I end. I and a few others are getting tired of dominating the forums so how about some help stepping up and posting something either Off Topic or even BETTER yet ... Cruise related.

And alright for my 3rd and last (for now anyways) ... Those pop up boxes are driving me NUTS. Well OK I do understand that it pays the bills but it still drives me NUTS. :hammer: Heck I might even pay for a 2nd Group Cruise fare for MY Dearest SIL & BIL so as to help support the site and get rid of these things. Think of it whats BETTER ... Annoying Pop Ups or going on a Group Cruise in support of the site?? If U say the annoying Pop Ups then w will DEFINITELY send the Goof Ball squad out for U NOW.

OK time to earn so cruise $$$ so Bye Bye. Yes I know the post is corny but I REALLY meant EVERY word I typed so help us by coming clean for a change. And YES this means those of U that do have items bothering U (even minor ones) but do NOT think they warrant mentioning. Look at it this way .. if its something minor then it should be easy to fix. If its something bothersome then unless we know about it it can NOT be fixed.

This is the 1st thing I do in the morning when I get up. I would be lost without the board, it's my home. I just go with the flow of the changes. I'am not too good with computers but I can do enough to get me by on the boards.
I have made many friends here on the board over the years, I have been here almost since the begining. I have been on many of the goup cruises & have loved everyone of them & plan on going on many more.
I would like to thank Captain John & all the behind the scenes helpers for all the time & work they put into the site to try to keep everone happy. The board have given me many hours of pleasure over the years.

In general I like the changes. However, the most annoying thing I have experienced on the Internet is this ...

There are things that are more annoying, but this one is in first place because of how often it makes its appearance and because I have not figured out how to avoid it - other than to reduce the number of times I visit this site.

I understand the need for advertising, but whatever this thing is offering I would NEVER consider, simply because of how annoying it is.

Overall I enjoy the site. For me, it's hard to tell who is a travel agent/cruise consultant verse plain ordinary cruisers. (Like me)
I probably spend too much time on the site and I enjoy the "Banter" that some of your members get involved with. Also enjoy some of their humor and would like to meet some of them someday.

As E! mentioned, now it the time to be honest, we do appreciate everybody's comments about liking the site and feeling like it is home, but we can't improve and make things better if we don't know what isn't liked. Some things can be changed, some can't. Nobody is going to get upset with anybody for not liking something, the bad with the good all becomes part of the evaluation.

I don't like that fact that "MOST" of the folks on the Cruise Tracker - never post - but what can we do about that! lol

I don't like that fact that I can not see photos on the web site from work - but heck - I am not even supposed to be on the web site.

I don't think "Group Cruises" should be booked when other Groups have them scheduled (i.e., Group Cruise while DIT's are cruising, or someone should just be able to say Hey - - this group is going on a cruise - come join us! etc.) I would also like to see someone else lead a group and be able to use a different T/A on a group - but hey - I can't go on any of them - so I have no room to complain! lol

hate that little pop up lately!

Would like to see more Mini meets - besides Group Cruises

Okay - you all said to say - - so now I have said!

Well, you asked for honest responses, not sugar coated... so here goes.

First off, I really don't think John was itching at getting your thoughts about the photo gallery and the new site upgrades. I think he wants to know about CONTENT!

On a positive note: I've had the opportunity to meet some fellow @ddicts at mini meets and without any hesitation I agree that this is a warm hearted group of people posting.

Unfortunately I believe that this forum has evolved into a gathering place for those who go on the group cruises, and gives them a place to hang out and chat between cruises.

IMHO this site has basically turned into a private "Mini Facebook"... :(
Some of you have mentioned that this site gives great cruise information.
    Sorry, I don't see it.

    Okay, honest opinion given....
