Sorry, I can't help. I gave up on Discover a long time ago when I found there were LOTS of places where it didn't "work"! I don't remember specifically whether it's readily used in Alaska, but personally I wouldn't take the risk. Some folks swear by them...but I stick with my VISA and MasterCard. Do you have one of them you could take, instead?

We used our Discover card without any problem. We didn't do a lot a shopping though, so I can't say that everyone had it. It's probably about like what you get in the lower 48, where most take it, but a few don't.

hi everybody

thanks for the replies. i am only going to take the one card since it sounds like most places will take it if need be. i am also going to take travelers checks that i will cash in at the pursers desk in port so i will have cash also. i only have 10 more days after today and i am so excited and ready to get everything i need to do in order. i know all of us are going to have a great time when we are on our ships. dusty

We just got back from an Alaskan Crusie that visited those same ports, and I was able to use my Discover card in all but 3 of the stores that we made purchases in, and 1 of those was in Canada. Therefore, you should not have a problem.
