    It's so enjoyable reading these message boards. Thanks also for the welcome. This is only my second time posting, but you almost can't help yourself when you start reading.

    We're booked on the Maasdam for 1/31/04. Buy an inside get an outside and being a Mariner Club member our TA said we most likely will get upgraded. I'll keep checking and may have to buy an upgrade.

    Does anyone know anything about the parking in Norfolk. We'll be driving about 4 hours to get there and know nothing about the area. Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Happy Cruisin

    Anna...

    There has been alot of conversation about parking in Norfolk on another Board I visit. There are, apparently, two very large parking garages within reasonable distance to the Docks. One is supposedly immediately across the street and the other about a mile away but they say HAL will probably provide a shuttle to the ship.

    Links they have referenced are:

    <http://www.norfolkdowntown.com>
    <http://www.cruisenorfolk.com>

    I have not personally gone to those sites so ....Hope they are helpful.

    I talked with my HAL Personal Cruise Consultant and he will have the parking info shortly. I think with the parking garages not being at the port itself HAL surely will be providing shuttle service of some kind. We are booked for 3/23 and my husband will drop me and the luggage off at the pier, drive to the appointed garage and then take the (expected) shuttle back to the pier. HAL certainly will make arrangements for parking as they certainly want to make the Norfold port cruises a success.

    Hello, All,
    Ever the optimist, I just booked MAASDAM out of Norfolk for November '04! I hope this is OK, Sail, as ShipMaven did not tell me this is your ship - just teasing, as it's clear you encourage all your HAL addicts to cruise as much as possible. Our first HAL cruise was on the VEENDAM, and we really enjoyed it. I haven't been on a cruise for 18 months, so I'm already getting a kick out of anticipating the cruise, and, for the first time, we don't have to fly. We can drive or take the motorcoach; a welcome change.

    That's wonderful, Catgirl. Congratulations on a great booking.

    If you like Veendam (which we also like alot), I think (hope) you will love Maasdam. We find her to be a very beautiful ship with a fantastic crew.

    Now, about this business of booking MY ship and ShipMaven neglecting to tell you of my proprietory rights.....hmmmmm, we'll talk!!!

    Mary Ann.......Where arrrrre you????

    Catgirl, congrats on your booking! Not having to hassle with flying to the port is going to be so wonderful - I can't wait until/when/IF HAL starts sailing out of Galveston. I'll be "gone cruising" more than I'll be home! Ummmmmm, Sail, now we all need to play nice in John's sandbox and share, right, and that includes our favorite ships???...but make sure you have your lease papers with HAL for the Maasdam in proper order. As long as the paperwork is done, Mary Ann just, well, she just has to abide by it...don'tcha think?...well maybe??? Shipmaven, maybe there needs to be some clarification here. :lol

    I've been hard at work today....

    Sail - since I allow others to share Volendam, you've got to allow others to share Maasdam. It's only fair. I'm sure that CruisinTex and Catgirl will take good care of your ship on their respective cruises. And, who knows...they may be on a same sailing as you! Then YOU can keep a watchful eye on them, or vice-versa. :lol Furthermore, you're not totally faithful to Maasdam - you're sailing on Zuiderdam again. Hmmm

    Technicalities.....just mere technicalities re: us sailing ZUDM :lol

    Of course I want our C@ friends to have the pleasure of sailing on MY ship. :)

    I'm delighted to know they will be there in my stead being sure all is "ship-shape" in my absence.

    As long as they promise to have a wonderful time, enjoy every minute aboard, laugh a lot and come home with fabulous memories.....well, in that case, I'm delighted to share :)

    I have a suggestion, Sail. Tell us the dates you're sailing, then the rest of us can book at other times so your Maasdam is YOURS when you're on her! :lol

    I know this question was asked a long time ago, but people may still be interested. I just booked the 10/30 Maasdam out of Norfolk and found two web sites had the best rates.

    www.cheapertravel.com and
    online.mycruisevalue.com

    Most of the time the first one was slightly less expensive. However, once in a while the second one had some lower category rooms that were very inexpensive.
