non formal nights, slacks (dockers), button or polo sport shirt, think country club casual. This is simply being polite to your dining companions.

formal nights, depends on how you personally address formal. You will encounter everything from Tuxedo's to suites or sport jacket, dress shirt and tie. You will not be out of place wearing any of the three.

You will encounter everything across the entire clothing spectrum, what you will actually see in the dining room depends on how the ship enforces their dining room dress code.

This is an old thread, but just so we'll have the correct info out there in case any other NCL newbies takes a look, NCL is entirely Freestyle, you can read about it on their website. That means there are no formal nights when one is banned from the MDR if they choose not to dress up. For the large aft MDR and specialty restaurant Le Bistro, the dress code for men states long pants and a collared shirt, close toed shoes, no hats. Even jeans are ok. In the other two smaller MDRs and all specialty restaurants except for Le Bistro all of the above plus shorts and sandals are allowed.

NCL will have a Norwegian's Night Out or a Dress Up or Not Night when some people will dress up, but sightings of a tuxs or long gowns are rare as are even jackets and ties. People tend to dress up when they want, to celebrate a birthday or anniversary rather than pay attention to when Dress Up or Not is posted. You will see people dressed very nicely sitting along side someone in nice jeans and a nice shirt on every night. If this will ruin your dinner, best book with another line.
