We were booked on the August 3rd sailing of the Norway and have had little luck getting information from NCL regarding the logistics of the refund process. We are not in a rush, but would like to have a bit more information on what to expect and when to expect it.

Has anyone who was booked on July or August sailings gotten specific information regarding the process?

Have any of you actually received your refunds yet?

Any information is appreciated!

Hi Lara,

My husband and I were booked on the 6/1 Norway sailing. The logistics of the refund process were never explained to us, because I think there was a lot of confusion. However, we did receive our refund on 6/4.

I hope this helps!

Regards,
Susan

We received our refund within 1 week of the notification of cancellation. I'm waiting to see if we get a voucher.

We were booked on the July 27th. We paid in full 2 days before the explosion. I have not recieved a word of anything from NCL, only a form letter by E-mail, that was a duplicate issued by NCL, that came from the agency that I booked through. Not even my TA contacted me to rebook anything. The night that I recieved the notice that we were cancelled, I immediately jumped online with the phone in the other hand making alternate arrangements, Luckily we had made airline arrangements for the day before to arrive in Miami, so were able to rebook with another line out of Ft Lauderdale for the Saturday departure. If anyone is waiting to hear word about anything, DON'T wait. if you still have airline reservations, Look around now. We only had to rebook a hotel room, which is much cheaper than rebooking a cruise and airline.

myfuzzy, I don' t blame you for what you did and am surprised you haven't heard anything as so many have other stories to tell. Of course, from what I have read it depends somewhat on the date of your sailing and obviously there are many scheduled to sail before you. What kind of an agent do you have that wouldn't number 1-call you and 2-try to rebook you on something else. Takes all kinds huh? Have you tried to contact NCL? Now that the initial rush is over you might get some pretty good advise, answers to questions or whatever. Good luck and enjoy your cruise.

We were booked on the 8/31 sailing, and were about to make final payment when those cruises were cancelled. According to NCL, a refund for the deposit will be issued within 4-6 weeks from the cancellation date, and the vouchers will be mailed at that time. hope this helps!

I received my credit for our Sept. 14th sail date on July 2. I have not received anything from Norwegian or our T.A. about the $50 per person credit for future NCL cruise that we are supposed to get. However, they said it would be sent out around the same time as the credit, so it may be "in the mail". I've already re-booked for a cruise on the Celebrity Horizon (10 night!!!) in Nov. Got a great rate on it.

Don't get your hopes up on the $50 per person - the max is 100 per cabin no matter if there are 2 to 4 people. I've also sent Norweigan a letter the end of May and so far have heard nothing in regard to credits or such. We got cancelled out 9 days piror to our trip and individuals who were sailing on 8 Jun were also cancelled out 9 days prior at got 25% discount on future cruise. I'm still waiting to see if NCL responds.

Mikey, waiting to see if NCL responds to what? I don't know about others, but think I am confused. Are you complaining about only getting a 25% discount voucher for a cruise plus of course getting back all you paid, or are complaining about something else? You are correct about the $50, max $100. NCL made that very clear. Anyway, I am still confused about your remarks. Hope you get the voucher soon if that is your concern. What kind of letter did you write to NCL? If it was just to let them know you were not satisfied you may not hear for a long time. I have the impression they are fairly busy right now.

I think Mickey is saying that they did not get the 25% discount offered to them, and feels like they should as other cruises did that were cancelled that close to the sail date. I also was booked on the Norway for the August 24, 2003 sailing, and when I found out about it, I immedialy called the TA also, and they did not even know the trips were cancelled. I have yet to see a refund, but I was told it would be taken care of along with getting the $50 off pp voucher for a future NCL cruise. If this is any reflection of the way NCL runs there business, I may not need to use the voucher anyway, so I am not that worried about it. I contacted the TA a few days after the trips were cancelled, and they still had not received a call, letter, or e-mail from anyone at NCL, they had to call themselves just to verify my cruise was actually cancelled. As I said, NCL would be extremely lucky if they got my business or anyone in my family's business any time in the near future.

Aaron, from what my TA has told me and from the other cruise boards most travel agencies got faxes immediately with all the details. I don't know who's responsibity it would be to keep up with the bulletins, but when I was an agent we all got copies to this type of info on a regular basis. As for the 25% discount vouchers, again my understanding is they were going out separate from the refunds. Who knows why you haven't gotten your refund. it seems almost everyone received them by last Friday. The rumor is the last ones went out on Wedesday. Hopefully you will get yours tomorrow. I am also wondering why your TA got no info on the refunds and vouchers when the information was on about all the websites, the radio and the newspapers. guess some times things just seem to slip right though the holes. Golly, again I hope you get your refund soon.

I WAS TOLD TODAY JULY 23,93 THAT OUR VACATION WAS CANCELLED AND I HAD BOOKED AIR FARE FOR OUR DAUGHTER TO COME N.Y. TO FLA. NCL DID NOT COMPENSATE US NOR WILL THEY .THEY SAID ,THEY WILL NOT UPGRADE OUR RESERVATION TO ANOTHER SHIP IN THEIR FLEET WHICH I HOPED THEY WOULD DO. THEY SAID I WOULD HAVE TO PAY THE GOING RATE FOR THE NOREWEIGN SUN WHICH SAILS THE SAME DAY AS MY SCHEDULED VACATION WHICH WAS PAID IN FULL FOR 6 MONTHS. ALTHOUGH OUR TRAVEL AGENT DID SAY SHE WOULD CALL ME AND TRY TO HELP US FIND SOMETHING REASONABLE RATE NCL WAS NOT HELPFUL I WOULD CERTAINLY THINK BEFORE I SCHEDULED A VACATION ON NCL. I KNOW PEOPLE WHO HAVE RECIEVED FULL FARE VOUCHERS FOR MUCH LESS THAN OUR PROBLE M ON OTHER CRUISE LINES, ALL I ASKED FOR WAS TO SUBSTITUTE A SHIP UPGRADGE FOR THE SAME MONIES GRANTED IT IS A MORE EXPENSIVE CRUISE RATE, BUT I DID NOT CANCEL, THEY DID ,AND I FEEL MY FAMILLY AND I SHOULD BE COMPENSATED. I WROTE THEM TWO LETTTERS WITH NO WRITTEN REPLY. SO MIKE DO NOT EXPECT A LETTER OR ANY REPLY. I CALLED THE CEO OFFICE AND WAS TOLD THEY WILL NOT COMPENSATE MY FAMILLY

Sunnday, I agree with you 100%. I have had my cruise booked since January February time frame, and they cancelled me within the 90 day time frame. I also asked to be upgraded to another ship that sails on the same date, but no dice from NCL. They said that "since it is a different product that I would have to pay the going rate." I said that I work in retail, and if we sell something that does not meet someone's standards that we refund them the money, offer to let them exchange the item, and if we do not have the same item, we sell them an upgraded one for the same price as the original one that they bought that they were not happy with. I too will think long and hard about sailing with NCL. I also found that the customer service operators were very very rude, and wanted nothing to do with helping people out, they just wanted them off their phone as fast as possible so they could be rude to the next caller. Not a good way to run a business. I just had my refund sent out on July 18. It was cancelled a monthe before that that, and it is now almost a month after it has been supposedly sent out, and I have not yet received it even. NCL is doing a very very poor job with how they are handling this situation in my oppinion, and I will tell everyone I know how poor a job they do with compensating thei customers if something goes wrong with what they sell you. They should be offering more for a refund, or even upgrading people to other ships. They have 3 ships that sail on Saturday or Sunday that they could very easily move people to, but instead they say sorry... your check will make it to you some day! Very upset about this still!

For those of you who seem so unhappy I think you need to read the boards (cc) and the views from those on Celebrity and RCL. You will see they are not offering too much different on the cruises they have to cancel for some reason. the ones cancelled with in a few days of sailing are getting a little better on board credit, and their passengers are gripping just like you guys are. I don't understand.

dear calender girl so glad you rebooked on the celebrity cruises they are wonderful one of the best cruises i have ever had. but i think you misunderstood ncl 's intensions were to only credit you with a shipboard credit if you re booked a cruise with them bwefore september 30. 03 they have no intentions of giving you a credit for a future cruise of fifty dollars .i think we should charge them a cancelation fee . At least thirty five dollars a person
