(td) Thanks to this forum, I am getting Elliot updates. The latest one
says his laptop has broken down.....HP will take several days to send
a new HD. But from what I read the family must pay the cost of transport.

Could this be true? Is there anything that might be done to help get them
assistance without money being spent? Although I live in Australia I am
going to make a donation Thursday. His Mom was upset yesterday that any
donations are not tax-deductions. But I am not worried about that.

Life is hard enough when all goes well but when it does not if you can
help you should try.

Thanks for caring. . It is very kind. We are not paying for the transport, we are paying someone to recover what was on the hard drive so it is not lost. My husband spent a lot of time getting it ready when it was new for our son and ALL his stuff is on there. And yes, everyone should back their stuff up but it was so new, we had no clue it could break down so soon. It just seems it is one thing after another. And a lot of this would not be a big deal most times but we have way too much on our plates right now and I think we are beginning to crack a little.

=huh jmo but the person that wants to charge you to recover the HD should
hope he never has hard times.....

Although I would like to think that, it is a business for them...I understand and will get help from other kind folks and maybe HP will get a little letter from the MOM.....
