Hi - We are booked on the Volendam for the repositioning cruise from Florida to Vancouver. I have read some not very favourable comments about the ship, and am eager to hear something posative. Are there enough activities to keep us occupied, or is it bridge games and deck chairs? This will be our 6th. cruise - the other 5 trips were with Princess.

Are you sure the not so favorable comments were specifically about Volendam? She usually runs like a fine-tuned Swiss watch.

At any rate, you'll find MANY more activities than bridge and sitting in deck chairs - and they'll run from morning until night. You can pick and choose as many, or as few, as you wish.

She's somewhat smaller in size than the Sun-Class ships, but is very spacious and has beautiful decor (her theme is flowers, so you'll see that in lovely murals and floral arrangements throughout the ship). There's an abundance of lounges to suit all tastes and music preferences; her dining room is on two decks which gives a much more expansive feeling than the low-ceilinged dining rooms on the Princess ships...

There's a wonderfully friendly atmosphere on board...and I try to sail on her at least once a year. Her Officers, Staff and Crew are wonderful and treat us most graciously...as I said, Volendam runs like a fine-tuned Swiss watch.

Ditto everything Maven said. Volendam is a fabulous ship and there is no reason for anyone to be wanting for activities. I also cannot imagine that you found only negative things written about that wonderful ship.

We are usually the self-entertaining types and don't do many group things, but I do read the daily list of "what to do" and I cannot imagine you will not find plenty that appeals to you. You must have imagined there would be "some down time" in a three week cruise. I know I would want some quiet mornings/afternoons during that long a cruise.

Hope you have a great time.

From where did you hear or read these interesting comments concerning what a garbage scow the Volendam is.........

Granted it is, as is most Holland America, a little laid back but unfavorabe.... NOT
as a matter of fact the sailing you are on is pretty close to sold out. Somebody gotta
    like it.

Here are some positive thoughts from our own community and if you do a search in the
reviews, under Holland America-Volendam you will come up with a lot more positive
thoughts. Email me, I'll be glad to show you around the ship, she's a dream.

Speaking of the Volendam, does anyone know when the ship is expected to receive a Neptune Lounge? I know there is a list floating around somewhere, but I can't seem to find it.

    :)....Sleepless night, Carol. :(

:jump I have us just about all packed and ready to leave for FLL. We'll spend a little time at Hyatt Pier 66 to let my husband start to unwind and get a headstart on his tanning. Then we bound across the gangway of the beautiful Rotterdam.

We sure do need this cruise. We love them all but this one comes very hard earned.

Having the Neptune Lounge makes such a huge difference IMO in the Suite experience.

    Enjoy!!!
