We are planning on booking a cruise to the Bahamas, etc either by the end of October or beginning of December. However, I know this is around hurricane season so I am wondering if it is safe. Would love to hear from others who have cruised during these months and your thoughts...

    Thank you!

    Welcome to Cruise @ddicts.

Even in the height of Hurricane Season, your chances of storms are far less that your chances of having great weather.

    That being said...

December is not in "official" Hurricane Season - it officially ends November 30th. End of October usually is past the most active part of Hurricane Season. BUT, we really can't predict for certain what will happen. Mother Nature decides for herself. I'm one of two who posts weather on Cruise @ddicts. A number of friends have cruised the Caribbean this summer with no problems at all.

We go every year at the end of November and haven't had a problem, we used to do Thansgiving week, now we do the week after Thanksgiving, once in a while we will do a Caribbean resort instead, The week after and the begining of December has some real cruise bargains. I am not sure if I would want to book Oct or early Nov.

 We cruise almost every Oct. into Nov. and have had very few problems. If there is a hurricane in the area, the ship is going to stay far away from it. You may differant ports or fewer ports, but you'll still have a great time.

I've cruised in October many times with no weather related issues. However, I really love cruising the begining of December. We've taken advantage of the great deals the past few years and are considering booking something for this year as well. You might be able to find a 7-day for the price of a short bahama October cruise.

We have cruised many times in Sept/Oct. We are aware it's hurricane season but love the lower prices and warmer temps along with the slower time in my line of business. We are also aware that the itinerary could change if there was a hurricane so aren't going to complain if we book an Eastern and end up going Western for instance. We are just happy to be on vacation.

My husband and I were married in Dec 1999 and have cruised the Caribbean ever December since. It has always been beautiful weather and smooth sailing. I can't speak for October though. Love sailing in December...The ships are always beautifully decorated and most kids are in school.

We have cruised often during October, November and December, and only one time was the cruise direction changed because of a hurricane, and that was on the "Crab" cruise..2006.. I forget the actual date..

But in spite of the change of plans.. it was one of the best cruises we have had.

The Captain will not put his Pax in any harm, so it that means a port change.. so be it.

Sometimes these port changes can end up being great fun.
I remember one from many years ago that was not related to weather but a strike onshore. We ended up at an island that the cruise ships rarely visit, another remarkable day.

Oh yes.. check out my signature.. we have two booked this year
    (1) October
    (2) November

We have cruised in the fall many times and have dodged the storm bullet every time. A few years ago we were headed back to Tampa three days ahead of a storm.

That said, I'll be watching the weather map closely because our next cruise leaves four weeks from today. Fingers are crossed.

I'm always hoping that if something does pass thru we won't be able to make it back to port and will have to just float around for a few extra days, waiting for the storm to pass. Got to love a flexible schedule!
