I got this in my email from my SIL, Scrapbook Lady about her dog, Gunner, who has been fighting renal failure :
"We have an 8:30 am appointment tomorrow to put him down!!!! As hard as it is to let go of a friend......I know its time. He has lost even more weight and is probably close to 25 pounds. He was 40 - 45. He is refusing his treats and his tail doesn't wag anymore. My heart just breaks when I think about this. I know its part of being a good pet parent, but this has been tough on me. For the past eight weeks I have done all that I could do for him and now its time to let him go. I'm trying to decide if I want to take a few days off from work. I'm afraid if I do I will be at home and might make it harder one me. Then on the other hand I'm not sure I can hold it together to go to work. I will miss him terribly, I will miss my friend............."

As crazy as I am over my Simon, she was even more so about her baby. I can't read the line about his tail without crying.

I hate reading about having to make these decisions. It is so hard but she does know that it is the best for him. I will be thinking about her!

It is such a shame. Susan had the same experience with her darlin' Kiss a few weeks ago and it was absolutely heartbreaking.

It is heartbreaking....I have a dear friend who knows that she is facing this decision in a very short time. As long as her dear Mickey is pain free and happy he will be with us but we all know that the very sad day is coming...and soon. We know too that the tears we shed when we have to say goodbye to our darling furbabies is the price we pay for all that unconditional love that we have received...and we would never trade that!

I am so sorry to read this, Connie. It's a horrid decision to have to make, but it's a kindness for her furry child. Like so many here, I've been there and know what it is.

Please extend my sincere condolences to Scrapbook Lady...and to all the family, including you.

Please give her hugs from here as I too know how very hard this is. Let her know she is making a very hard but right decision and her pet will thank her for it.

So very hard to make a decision like this, because it's made with so much love. Please hug her for all of us.

Believe me, I know how hard it is to let go. But your best friend is depending on you to do what is best for him. When his quality of life is no where near what it used to be. When he doesn't even want to wag his tail, he really is looking for you to do the right thing & help him over the rainbow to a place where he can be free of his pain. I am so sorry for your loss.
