things don't look good

When the oncologist calls & not the nurse you know you're in trouble. It seems that ALL of his lymph nodes are greatly enlarged & where they were focusing on the mass in the intestines that is not where they are going in tomorrow; they are going in to take out a section behind the breast bone. The surgeon is working him in tomorrow as an emergency since the oncologist did not want to wait til next wk--nor do we. Oncologist said "we were looking for cancer to develop in the spine & prostate" and until now the spots in his lungs had not changed--remember the CT in late Oct showed NO change in the lungs but picked up the mass in the abdomen. A yr ago Iowa City talked about doing a biopsy of the lungs but there were only a few nodules whereas the spine is full of lesions & it appeared we were facing cancer of the spine so they decided against a biopsy of the lungs. In case any of you are wondering, if this turns out to be lung cancer--he has never been nor has anyone in our family ever been a smoker! However, he is a retired police officer & worked off duty security for yrs on average of 2 x's a wk at a bingo hall in 2nd hand smoke. But who knows, maybe all of this will be for nothing as I have that biopsy of the spine which was supposed to tell us what kind of bone cancer he had & it was not cancer. On the other hand, we have a 20 lb weight loss in less than a month & he developed a persistant cough about 2-3 wks ago. Please keep us in your thoughts. Thanks

At least they are acting on it immediately! Prayers continue. And take care of yourself too.

You are both in our thoughts and we are sending the best of wishes that all will be fine. =hug

Hoping for the very best for you and that things look brighter after they have a closer look.

Dearest Kathy, that hubby of yours is a true warrior. He has beat the odds so far and I pray for strength for Both of you to fight whatever they find tomorrow. We will all continue praying that this is NOT cancer and that the specialists will be aggressive in the preferred treatment so he will soon be back on his feet again.

Keep the faith girlfriend and keep coming back here to your friends on C@ with every little detail. It certainly helps to know that we have cyberfriends who are so faithful in their prayers and support. Try to relax and get some sleep tonight and don't forget to eat something.

(maybe this is a good time to write some positive things in your journal to simply remind yourself of all the blessings you do have right now. When I am the most discouraged I can always find something to be grateful for. Sometimes I just have to go back and read these things and let them soak into my spirit. Otherwise I will just become overwhelmed by all the 'what ifs' that seem to be assaulting me. )

Hugs and prayers, Mari
