Does anyone know what the standard is regarding tipping private guides for shore excursions, namely those in St. Petersburg, Russia? Quite a few cruisers are opting for the private tours, which are as expensive as the ships' tours but have smaller groups and are more flexible. Thanks for your advice. Ed S.

We took a Red October tour of St. Petersburg in May. We had a van, guide, driver and 8 people.
We decided on $60.00 per couple for 2 days being split between the driver and guide. I can't recommend going any other way. This tip was about 10% of the tour total. Since the average Russian wage is $38.00/ week, we felt it was adequate.
