Update from the oncologist

Received a call from the lymphoma dr a while ago. The surgeon talked to her about the abnormal cells but none are testing as cancer; she agreed that we had tried hard enough to get a good biopsy so we shall stop for now.

She said she was afraid this might be an aggressive form of lymphoma but she is now confident that it is not lymphoma. There is a possibility it could be some other slow growing cancer so they will monitor it closely every few months. Surgeon told her he was afraid if we continue to go into the spine that 1 of the procedures will lead to additional problems as the spine is in such a fragile condition. She said they had to first eliminate the cancer but will now focus, for the time being, on attempting to get some relief from the pain in the lower spine.

Although we still have no answer as to what IS in the spine, we are happy to push the cancer business to the back burner for a little while. Kind of feel like we have had a weight lifted off of us for a little while at least & ready to get back to living life again.

We've made it thru another hurdle in our roller coaster ride but as I sit here I wonder how young Elliott is doing. Hoping to hear some positive news about him soon.

Good to read that the specialist agrees to putting the cancer worry on the back burner for now and try to ease the back. Can you think about a cruise now?

Very happy to hear that it is not lymphoma... Now if they can get to relieving the pain a bit you'll be in a better position to figure out the rest of the mess. After they figure out what exactly it IS... and treat that, you can then consider surgery to repair the spinal damage.

Kathy - I'm so happy to see that cancer has been pushed aside, even though you don't have a definitive answer as to what is going on with Mike's spine. Thank God for the favor of no "C" word!

Kathy, I was hoping you would have a more definitive diagnosis, but I'm thrilled they're going to get busy working to get Mike's pain under control. We tend to be able to handle whatever news comes our way when we're not in so much pain. Please keep us posted.

Kathy....I'm so happy for you in the good part of this diagnosis but I cannot help but feel the frustration that you must feel in the (still) "not kowing for sure". I am so glad that they are going to concentrate on relieving some of the pain that Mike endures every single day. In doing so I pray that his (and your) quality of life improves dramatically. I'm hoping that now you can have some pleasure in moving forward with the planning of your cruise and that when the time to board the ship arrives you will both feel rested and well enough to enjoy it fully! Keeping you both in my prayers and sending loads of cyber hugs!
