I have been reading the Rubber Ducky cruise review with great interest. I noticed reference to the Neptune Lounge and the Concierge, but may I ask what suites the lounge is next to, and have they upgraded the bedding as yet? I am so excited about our cruise on the Volendam, and look forward to the next installment of the Rubber Ducky cruise. Thanks.

Neptune Lounges are not "next to" Suites. The lounges are "inside" so neither port nor starboard suites would be next to them....rather, they are across from. On ships where Neptune Lounges were added after initial construction of the ship, inside cabins on Navigation Deck were "taken" and that is the space that was used.

To know exactly which suites would be across from the Neptune on Volendam, you could judge from the deck plan and see where the inside cabins (midship) used to be located. They did not use ALL of the insides but 3 or 4 of them. Don't be afraid to book a Suite midship near the Neptune Lounges. We always book those suites on all of the ships and have never, ever been disturbed by any noise or commotion. We like being near the Neptune Lounge so we can easily "drop in" for a cup of coffee etc Plus, we prefer a midship location for our cabin.

    Sage,
As Sail stated... the Lounge is located where the inside cabins were. If I remember correctly, it would be approx around 7011 and 7012... that approx area. You will not have any noise from the lounge, it isn't that kind of place, unless bOB and Mal are around.

New bedding has been done on the Volendam, very nice, but I found the Duvet's to be too warm until we reached cooler climes.....had a sheet put on and just used that.

Not sure when you are going but, Odette is the Concierge, and she is a jewel. Tell her Hi for me. I will be happy to try and answer any questions you may have.

Just went and looked at the deck plan... looks like it is show around 7019 and 7020, but, it didn't seem that far back...may be though. I was in 7007.

Sage - I think you'll love Volendam. Sail and Bruce have already answered your questions - but I know people who specifically WANT to be across from the Neptune Lounge. It's so easy to run in, get coffee, tea, juice - whatever. In fact, I rarely have breakfast or lunch anywhere else but the Neptune Lounge these days.

    Sail7Seas,

Thank you for the reply. I guess I should have worded my question better. I meant to ask which suites the new Neptune Lounge was across from. DH likes to sneak in and grab one of their oatmeal cookies when ever he thinks that I'm not looking.

    Bruce,

I have loved your review and look forward to each new installment. You are truly gifted in both your commentary and the photography. We will be aboard on the December 6th sailing, but DH just asked me to look into the November 26th so that we might make it a back to back. I hope that Odette is still aboard when we sail, and I look forward to meeting her.

Thanks again for the prompt replies.

    ShipMaven,

Thank you as well. Yes, that is DH's dream to be directly across from the Neptune Lounge, but it would be bad for him, too close to temptation. I usually have to alert the Concierge that he is Diabetic, and then they point him to the sugar free goodies when ever he enters. Usually they are so sweet that I get a good report from them at the end of the day. He will just have to make do with the PS, and the extra walk to get there will do him good.

:) Sage....from the PS to Neptune Lounge------well, it barely burns five calories :lol and takes a mere minute to "make the trip" :)

As I said, we are most usually port side, mid ship but we had no difficulty adjusting to the port side PS :) Didn't cut back in the least on treating ourselves to wonderful espressos (and a small nibble to go with it :)

I was looking at the pictures with the Rubber Ducky cruise installment today, and noticed that the PS veranda seems to back up against the other suite veranda. Is this correct? I had looked at the Volendam deck plans, and it shows the veranda comes first as it did on the Rotterdam PS 7002, but obviously the pictures don't lie. There are the ducks all in a row. Have I gone "quackers"?

I will let Mary Ann give you the details of the veranda since it is decorated differently than the S veranda's...here is a pic from my veranda to hers.

    Bruce,

Thanks. I don't suppose it comes with those magnificent ducks? It sounds like you had such a fabulous time.

Rotterdam's PS verandah does not have one on either side. I think Volendam's does have a "neighbor".

    You want ducks ?????

Should I be afraid to answer that question as to do I want ducks? Somehow I think that I should be very afraid.

    Bruce,

Just what have I done? I think that I am almost afraid to inquire further. Oh, I have thought of another question though. Did any of the make up mirrors get installed, and if so, is it at the dressing table or in the bath? Thanks.

Sage - The makeup mirrors have been installed. It's at the dressing table in the bedroom of the penthouse. Bruce was NOT - repeat, NOT - in that room! :lol

Only long enough for a quick touch up.

    ShipMaven,

I have noticed that you are doing the Trans Canal Cruise next year. Is it the ship, the itinerary, the staff and service on the cruise or a combination of all three that keep you coming back? We are seriously considering this cruise next year, as Bruce and his narrative and photos are really making it appealing and DH is really interested in a full transit of the canal.

Maven....Is the mirror much better than the one they had previously? I found the lighting and mirror not very useful for putting on makeup and more often than not used the mirrors over the sinks as the lighting was better. Did it work okay for you or is it just my tired eyes ? :)

Sage - I missed one of your earlier questions. The PS configuration on Volendam's deck plan is incorrect - it's reversed. The verandah IS next to 7003.

As for the trans-Canal next Spring, it's a combination of everything. As is obvious, I love the ship - I've cruised on her each year since her debut. Hopefully, all of our Officer friends will be on board and not on vacation. The itinerary is great, and I especially liked Huatulco, Mexico. Of course, a very key ingredient this year was the group cruising with me. I doubt they'll do the same itinerary two years in a row... But I highly recommend the itinerary at that time of year.

Sail - quite frankly, I don't remember a make-up mirror previously. I rarely use one anyway. But I had no problem at all with the newly placed mirror. Like you, I normally stand at the sink...and hope for the best. ;)
