On the afternoon of 2/28/08 Princess Cruises' Emerald Princess was on day two of a ten night cruise in the Southern Caribbean. During the afternoon the ship spotted a small boat in possible distress and immediately turned the ship around to check on the small boat. It re-located the boat and found two men in apparent distress, waving a red flag and their arms to get the ships attention. The ship slowed down and sent a Fast Rescue Craft out to the small boat. The crew then rescued the men from the boat and returned them to the ship for medical treatment. Once onboard it was found that the two men were a father and son from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. They had been on fishing trip and lost use of their engine. They had been adrift for eight days in open seas and had lived on fish. They had ran out of fresh water three days before being rescued and had begun drinking salt water. The men were able to call home once aboard the ship. Their families had presumed they were lost at sea forever. When the Emerald Princess arrived in Aruba the next day the men were able to fly home.

I'm excited to bring you this Exclusive Video of this event. I was aboard for our Cruise Addicts group cruise and was able to take this video footage. I hope you enjoy the great work by the ships staff and crew: CLICK HERE to Watch the Video
