Adventure Travel Expedition to Prince William Sound: Alaska's Magnificent Coast

PRESCOTT, Ariz.-- Twenty years after The Exxon Valdez oil spill, the largest in history, Prince William Sound teems with wildlife, and tourism and the environment have rebounded. Join Naturalist and Prescott College Faculty member Walt Anderson this September as he leads an eight-day, once-in-a-lifetime adventure to this fragile and precious ecosystem, one of the most visually stunning and remote regions of earth. "An Exploration of Life and Landscape" runs September 21 through the 28.

Wildflower meadows, rainforest trails, calving glaciers whales, otters, seals, puffins, and other abundant wildlife ... participants will learn while exploring, with a focus on "Interpreting the Natural World" using photography, writing and being in nature. Seasoned explorers Walt Anderson and Captain Dean Rand of the Discovery will share their unique perspectives as they and the Discovery crew lead the group to a destination list of favorite places. They'll share their insiders' knowledge developed over decades of exploration.

  --  Travel with and learn from expert explorers and naturalists
  --  Cruise in style for six days and 5 nights aboard the ship MV Discovery
  --  Relax in comfortable shipboard accommodations
  --  Enjoy freshly prepared, gourmet, and hearty meals featuring local
      seafood and fine wines
  --  Kayak and hike in and around Prince William Sound
  --  View and photograph glaciers, majestic vistas, and abundant wildlife

Walt, a professional photographer, writer, and illustrator, will teach daily sessions on interpreting the natural world and will guide participants in capturing the breathtaking beauty of region with digital camera, journaling, and sketching techniques. Walt has been referred to as "the naturalist of old cast in modern times." His field experience spans the globe: East Africa, Madagascar, Brazil, Ecuador (including Galapagos), Argentina, Australia, Mexico, Alaska, and the American West. Walt teaches and advises on natural history, ecology, wildlife management, wetland ecology, interpreting nature through art and photography, ecotourism, and field biology. Besides several books which he's authored, his works appear in Co-existing with Urban Wildlife, Wonders of the World: Madagascar, National Audubon Society, Ecology, Journal of Wildlife Management, Condor, American Birds, and more.
